Listening to the classic Maiden song, "Weekend Warrior", got me thinking about the song's topic, soccer hooligans. Are hooligans actual soccer fans or are they just people who decide to get into a big fight on the same day as a soccer game? I ask because if the fight occurs concurrently to the game, then aren't the hooligans missing all the soccer action?

The only real ones can’t leave their resident country during the World Cup, yes.

You think they scheduled the fight for the same time as the game?

I think there's a scale with this like most things. I've know people who've been involved in hooliganism to various degrees, some of whom ended up in prison for it.

Some were into football but others just used it as an excuse. They liked the tribalistic violence but weren't exactly students of the game. The idea that they are just mega passionate fans doesn't really hold up. However, there will always be people who love their team and get caught up in a violent altercation in the heat of the moment so you can't put them all in the same basket.

yes they are fans. they go to away games and they specialy get for their rivalry matches. lazio/roma , inter/juve napoli/roma .atleti/real. they watch matches when they play regular teams and are into football but when rivalry match comes then some fans turn their focus to insult opposing fans or get in fight

Hardly classic Maiden
Nah, it is a great song and it is a classic example of Maiden taking a topic that other metal bands would never consider writing about and making an amazing, epic song out of it.

Correction;
Are football hooligans legit soccer fans...?

Of course they are. Don't ask ultras that question to their face.
