All the threads about eye poking lately have had me thinking about something. As the thread title asks, are refs allowed to give a warnings for fouls (eye pokes, low blows) because of a fighters history of warnings or point deductions in past fights? One example I can think of off the top of my head would be Cheick Kongo for low blows and short grabbing. If there IS a rule against this, do you believe it should be allowed?
I for one believe if there's a clear trend like in the case of Kongo the ref should be allowed to warn the fighter before the fight starts that if they commit this same foul they will be given no chances and a point will be immediately deducted. Obviously this would only be taken into consideration for repeat offenders and some guide line would have to be established in order to determine if a fighter was a recurring problem (maybe a commission of ex-fighters doing analysis post-fights?). Although this might seem like a pretty huge undertaking I definitely think it could prevent a lot of the fouls that only need to happen once to change the entire course of what could be a very competitive fight.
