Are joint braces and tape a bad idea?

I could understand how being overly reliant on a knee brace might be detrimental, if the necessary muscles and ligaments are't strengthened because of it... But what about, say, braces for wrestling and no braces or tape for rolling?

(Obviously padded, nobody wants an accidental metal knee brace to the jaw when wrestling)

Your thoughts? A lot of these guys seem to go HAM on their wrestling and hurt themselves, namely Khabib, Weidman, Rampage, etc.

What else could the fighters use to prevent injury or make injuries far less likely?

pretty sure I've seen guys where tapes around their ankles in fights, not sure if that's the same thing though.

Yeah im certain it is. Although in a fight i can see how it might add friction and make your leg easier to get a hold of... But other then that, ankle tape seems like a good idea as long as you're not fighting Palhares

i mostly mean in training though, because thats where injury is more likely

Like that?

People get hurt more in wrestling because of the nature of the sport, wrestling is grinding and hard with lots of strength, pressure and sudden movements. It's more dangerous to train than most of the other martial arts used in MMA, in my opinion.
