are hip throws used often in mma? (by judoka liek nak, akiyama, yoon, lomb, nasty, etc)

I haven't seen many; the whole giving your back (even for a second) might not be a good idea against someone who is probably as skilled as you in the clinch/takedown range.

Judoka89, muerto?

Anyways, yes, Karo uses them all the time. all the judoka you listed use them

Mike Van Arsdale did a perfect hip throw on Couture. But hip throws, like alot of throws and takedowns can be countered.

Sergei/Ninja if I'm not mistaken.

But without the grip offered by a gi it's easier for the opponent to counter it by taking the back I find.

Karo, Kohsaka, Yoshida, Nak, Misaki, Kharitonov, Takimoto, Murata, Sakurai, Johnston... many, many more including wrestlers and non wrestlers...hip throws are used often in mma. Almost as often as throws are used.

Didn't Crocop use one against the Russian guy in that Street Fighter video?

Nakamura threw his opponent at Pride Real Deal with a hip throw.
