I don't mind the extra fat it's refined carbs you have to watch out for.
Yeah, I know. Its hard to get fatty cottage cheese hear, Everything is real low fat. But then again, I use whole milk, butter, whole eggs, extra virgin olive oil and I aint picky about animal fat either. The whole point of the cottage cheese has been to add protein. some 16g's per 100g.
Thoughts and conclusions: A summary of things
I feel like Im on a verge of discovering something important about eating. Funny stuff being happening in last few months. I've gain'd 2kg and it ain't fat, I know cos I can see veins and smaller muscels in places I didn't see before. And all this feels like its just consequence of some random acts that I have no control over. Some ways that actually is quite accurate.
Let me elaborate:
The Mrs. started working after her maternity leave, which was 8 months. The kids went to daycare. I have been working on my construction (destruction) site since january and I have gotten some serious lifting during my days. I jackhammered 150 square meter of 15cm thick concrete and manually carried it out piece by piece cos my crappy wheel barrow couldnt handle the rocks I had cut. Only the finer stuff. There have also been alot lighter but tedius jobs that have taken my time. This year has been on and of with grappling, got a lot of mat time st the start of the year and was getting ready for the beginners open nationals. Tweak'd my neck/upper back, that took month and a half off of training. Got back to grappling while lifting some random stuff at the gym. Progressed nicely. Then come the bloody concrete floor that total'd me. A month of random grappling and lifting when I had the energy to do so. It was on and off for a few months due to accidents, getting sick and stuff like that while I was getting really frustrated about not being able to train when I had a huge urge to do so.
Then the wife goes to work with rotating three shifts. Which means Im with the kids every third week. And that means no grappling during the week. Lifting if I can make to the gym between 12.30-15.00. And on top of that the gym is closed during the seventh month.
So the stress levels were kinda high during the first five months of the year. Then I kinda accepted that this was how things are, I really cant help it. Then I started to look at the bright side. I got to be with the kids. I get to rest a lot more, which is funny. I can actually take a nap during the weeks cos I get the kids home 15.30. I can mostly decide my working hours. I can train alot more intensively during the two weeks, cos I know the third week will be off or at least with less volume. Then one more thing that has changes is that I've been eating more and better foods. We've gotten in the organic band wagon. I've actually started eating before training, before I went to grapple and lift with empty stomach, now I have fruits and whey.
When I look at the all the random things that have affected my life, it doesent really feel so strange that things have been looking up.
- More and better rest
- More and better diet
- More and better training
- Less stressing about status quo
Before I train'd hard but stopped when I got injured or got sick, now I have a forced deload week. Before I watch'd what I ate, but ate too little in relation to my activities. Now eat pretty liberatly but watch the food I eat. (Im writing this down to actually keep doing it) Prefer organic whole foods, eat processed foods as little as possible. Fruits and vegetables as the main source of carbs. Berries. Other carb sources and most of the fruits gear'd around break fast and training. Increased olive oil and fishoil consumption. Three bigger meals and two snacks. Whey is your friend.
The bable over.
