April 1st Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin DAZN

sigh ... we know

always thinking back and say losing to Wlad would have done his career wonders. He wasn't mentally ready.

No problem with this level opponent as a comeback fight, but why wait 7 months from the Usyk loss. This should have happened in December and he could be looking for a meaningful fight in April.

Im pretty sure I had Franklin beating Whyte or at least making it close close. I'll have to go back and watch or check the thread.
So definitely some credibility to Franklin as an opponent. Definitely a step above a typical tune up fight.

As far as AJ switching trainers again. I thought his 2nd loss to Usyk still showed he looked better than he had in many fights. Thought he still looked great under Garcia. Usyk is Usyk. He's just better as of now.

However, if Derrick can teach Joshua to still move and inflict damage like he has with Charlo or Spence it could get interesting. Didn't seem like he was keen on making Garcia his lead again when asked after the fight.

He may have been out of it mentally, I guess.

All the more reason to get back in quick and not let it fester.

Edit: the problem being he surrounds himself with yes men rather than having someone to give him good advice

Oh, you definitely may have a point.

I think this is his main problem as well. Reminds me of when I noticed in one of his hype videos he has a guy who writes daily affirmations for him to put up on his bedroom wall to read in the morning.

i did not see the fight, but the buzz i saw on the innernets was that Franklin barely lost the fight to Whyte. I was seeing some opinions that he shouldve won. oh man, can you imagine if Franklin KOs AJ stiff? Dillian Whyte would be trolling him indefinitely and probably wouldnt want a rematch.
AJ is in a good spot if he flattens Franklin because thats what Dillian couldnt do

So Franklin is the new can?

He got credit vs Whyte because he was not as awful as we thought he'd be. But he still lost to Whyte. He still couldn't really hurt Whyte. He showed professionalism, courage, he looked the part. But even a far diminished Whyte at this stage beat him.

So ok, Joshua fights him. KO's him most likely. Get's a tune up but personally I just see this as a can getting crushed. It is what it is.

AJ should dispatch this guy with ease and get some forward momentum again.

AJ is going to fight this guy, then beat an old shit shot Whyte....then if he thinks that is a good series of fights to go against Wilder....well....its not going to have a happy ending is it

He still needs to fight Fury or Wilder...i dont think he will make it though

he can’t fight a guy that won’t fight him (wilder). He does need to get back in contention asap and this is a nothing fight! He should be stepping in with a top 10 fighter and keeping himself in the mix.
