As more comes out about this, the worse it looks. What I wonder is if a republican lawmaker would have tried to open a door how far would the capital police have gone to stop them. I don’t think it could have happened. Those officers assigned to the congress and senators are pretty elite. I worked with about eight of them while on a protection duty for John Boehner in 2012
It seems overly generous to completely discount the possibility of the existence of a Trump supporting rogue cop, especially in the current political environment we're living in. Of all the things that happened in 2020, a Trump sympathizing cop letting his politics effect his judgement would be the thing that was unbelievable?
The people that were involved with this riot and believe in this movement are not all uneducated yokels or anarchists. There are people with money and means enough to fly across the country to participate in this.
So, if you have a cop that truly believes that the election was fraudulent, like these rioters did, they don't see themselves in the wrong. They're the patriots.
It's one thing for you, a cop (former?), to have this feeling based off of your own experience, but to expect a civilian that constantly gets threats of rape and murder to have that same faith that you have, and for her to just completely trust that nothing bad will happen, WHILE the building, a building that should be the safest place on the planet, is being overrun by rioters that you know want to do harm to you?
That the rioters made it into the building at all should be enough to make anybody with an ounce of street smarts to have their guard up and wonder WTF is going on.
