Anything wrong with taking shots to the top of the head/forehead area?

Anyone ever do this for straight punches in lou of slipping? I try it sometimes, just to mix something new into my defense, and find that sometimes I like it better.

no, I try to avoid this as much as possible. It's probably not gonna knock you out, but I wouldn't want my poor little brain to get jolted around.

Old school boxers used to deliberately drop their head on a straight punch, it's good way of breaking your oppenents hand, or of getting KTFO'd...

It won't knock you out...but I don't know if deliberately taking shots to the head and killing all those brain cells is a good idea. It all adds up over time, I personally wouldn't advocate it.

I prefer evading but when my opponent is a lot faster I tend to wear them there anyway

try slapping the top of your head as hard as you can. if you get a little light headedness for a second then you'll get ktfo'ed in no time. you'll feel your brain bounce around in your head. just keep your gloves up or just stay out of range and only going in when needed to put in work.

I suppose it's alright if you want to spend your latter years as a vegetable.

can work, depends how well u take it

there is a skill to being hit, but obviously not being hit is always better

like has already been said, if done properly u can break ur opponants hand, or you can take a shot to setup another of yours, personally i prefer not being hit at all

yeh exactly. why would u want to get hit if u can avoid it and still succeed?

you can also do this if your to late to parry or slip or anything, just drop your head, its better then getting punched in the face.

Hmm, considering the hand breaking possiblity, this tactic might be better suited for MMA?

Yeah, I heard it can break the guy's hand, but you can call me a p*ssy if you want when I say I would just rather not get hit at all. :)

depends really, if a hand is well conditioned and well wrapped in a decent glove then ur not gonna break it easily, and you better hope they arnt punching too hard :P

although in my last fight i did break my left hand early on in the 2nd round

Doesn't sound like a good idea. It doesn't hurt as much though, cos you can see it coming and brace yourself.

Yea, besides the effects it will have on the brain and so forth, wouldn't judges score those hits for your opponant?

dipping the head might make ya more vulnerable to head kicks... and sometimes kicks can knock someone out no matter where they hit.

This not a good idea. Deliberately letting your self get hit, or "Taking a Shot" lets your opponent land punches that get him points in the eyes of the judges. Plus if i notice you doing that I'm gonna time it and then hit you w/ something else.

Plus a lot of not so powerful punches can equal a big punch over time. look at Nick Diaz vs. Josh Neer!

Stick to slipping and protect your centerline, parry those punches. One of the reasons ppl get hit w/ so many straight punches is that their hand aren't protecting the centerline.

HANDS UP AND CLOSE TOGETHER!
