I am planning to check out Gyobutsuji Zen Monastery in Arkansas.

I was wondering if there are any cool places to check out around that region?

Just looked at their website...very nice! When are you planning on going?

What part of Arkansas is it in?

When I was there... also missed out on the following places:

Whittaker Point:

Calico Rock:

Beaver Lake Cliff Jumping:

A lot of this stuff is in the north west. Even if you arent near there, its worth the trip. The buffalo river canoeing is seasonal though

Looking up where you will be, you will be close to a lot of cool places (outdoors)

Also, take in a Razorbacks football game. Never been to an Arkansas game myself but SEC games are usually a great experience regardless of the team. Try to make it a night game as tailgating is also a must experience.

Southern US is a big region. Lived in the South for much of my adult life, but never anywhere near Arkansas. AR is the ass end of the South, IMHO. Not trying to offend anybody, but much more interesting parts in terms of natural beauty, culture, cuisine, architecture, etc. Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia. Even Washington, D.C. if that counts. And Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee.

Would say Mississippi is the ass end... At least Arkansas has the Ozarks

I used to live in North Carolina in high school. The city was called Locust. It was right next to Frog Pond and Big Lick. I wish I was lying

Wow that scenery is immense. Kind of excited to take that all in now. And gain magical enlightenment powers.... Lol ;)

I was stationed in Arkansas for 5 1/2 years and do NOT sleep on Little Rock. It's VERY cosmopolitan and has GREAT bars. I have to recommend Vino's brewpub. It's a hole-in-the-wall, but it has a concert space in the back. Take in a concert/show! I saw Grand Buffet open up for the late great Wesley Willis there.

Best calzone in the city!

And...

If you have the chance, go diamond hunting in Arkansas. You just pay a fee and whatever you find, you keep. People find diamonds there a LOT.

Aw c'mon. Who wouldn't want to take a big lick of a good frog?

Arkansas has just as beautiful or more beautiful landscapes than many places in the south. We're called the natural state for a reason.

Who says you can't tailgate for a 1:00 game?
not long enough in general and the crowd is not as loud in my experience. Been to lots of lsu games. night is always craziness with the drunk fans
11:00 games are the worst
