I used to frequent restaurants and bars on weekends before COVID and then after COVID when things opened back up. In 2022, I started to realize that the quality of service went way down. Food was undercooked and underprepared more often. Staff, even the ones that used to be good, were way sassier with customers and a lot more short-tempered.

I was wondering if I was just noticing this on my end or if you are guys are noticing it too.

Yeah I also noticed this worldwide. I travel

Everyone is cheaping out. I do not blame them though so much

I've noticed it a bit. Worked as a chef for 8+ years before a career change. People just need to do their jobs. Some do it to the bare minimum, and some do it to the best of their ability.

I've noticed the employees at most big chains don't care anymore. I was at a Burger King recently and the kids in the back were just talking about weed and cursing out loud while I waited for my food to be made. Even the Manager was in on it. That's not just one example.

I've driven by Dunkin Donuts and they had a sign saying they are closed because no one showed up for work. I just think everyone is miserable these days and it just feels like things are teetering on the verge of collapse.

One of my students recently started working at McDonald's. I haven't been to a McDonald's is years, so I stopped by last night to see how the new job was going.

I didn't realize the customer and employees no longer interact. Rather, I order and paid at the kiosk. Then, someone dropped my bag at the counter and shouted my number. That's it.

I got take out of a particular thing and it wasn't cheap or fast. The last time I got it, it was like they cut a normal sized piece in half as if selling me one order for the price of two. Not likely to go back again.

I guess it differs from place to place. Here in Seattle my restaurant experiences have been hit or miss since covid. I don't eat out much but when I do I tend to have an unhappy experience about half of the time. As posters above have noted, restaurants have leaned heavily on the "short on staff" excuse to justify their shitty, half-hearted service. But what does being short staff have to do with me having missing items at almost every place I order? Don't even get me started on portion sizes. I went to the Cheesecake Factory location in Downtown Seattle and paid a pretty hefty fee for a steak dinner, desert, and some alcohol. The steak was about the size of a fish stick, the cheesecake was sliced thin, and the alcohol had a hint of piss. And then waitresses have the nerve to look at you with puppy eyes expecting a generous tip as if you didn't just get fleeced from every direction.
