I think everyone is trying to say that "classic" hip-hop would be the originators like Run DMC, Fat Boys, Beastie Boys, Early LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, Fab 5 Freddy....

If by classic you mean 90s, then yes. I like a minimal amount of rap made after 2000.

That’s a basic rule on my job sites. People put on modern hip hop and get nothing but complaints. I get them to switch to pretty much anything from the 90s and everyone loves it. Even the old fucks that aren’t really into hip hop.
 
Souljah Boy and Nelly are considered classics?
