I am drawing a blank, I remember watching a tournament where coleman was supposed to fight someone, and the fighter was too banged up so he pulled out so they gave a tired coleman an alternate that was fresh, and coleman got headkicked KO'd.

Lions dens Pete Williams right? I don’t think that was a tournament. Coleman won a tournament when there was no alternate for him to fight in the final at one event IIRC

Yeah Pete was his name, but i swear he had already fought someone and had to fight the fresher fighter.

I could be totally wrong.

"Coleman took nearly a year off after having to get ACL surgery and returned at UFC 17. Coleman was originally scheduled to face Randy Couture in a title match for the UFC Heavyweight Championship, but Couture was injured during training and was forced to pull out of the fight. Coleman instead faced a relatively unknown (at that time) last-minute replacement fighter, up and coming Lion's Den product Pete Williams."

For some reason I read the title as "Why didn't Mark Coleman fight the Ultimate Warrior in 1996?

Coleman lost to Maurice Smith months before the Pete Williams fight. That was it.
I think you are talking about Harold Howard at UFC 3. He was supposed to fight Shamrock in the finale. Shamrock pulled out and a fresh alternative Steve Jennum jumped in.

Williams would finish his career being the first and only victim of the Mir lock.

Fun fact, Mir and Chucky Olives have the same variation in subs, with 7 distinct submissions.

Coleman won the UFC 11 tournament by default because Scott Ferrozzo pulled out in the finals, and the alternate got hurt in his fight too.

he had a seizure during walkout. oh actually no, he's not a whamen, my bad
