Anyone here watch the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles back in the day?

I'm a big Indiana Jones fan, but for some reason I didn't watch the show when I was a kid. I don't know why, because it seems like the kind of thing that I'd have been totally into.

Anyone here watch it? And if so, was it good? I ask because I'm considering tracking some of those eps down and finally checking it out but I want to know if I should prepare to be disappointed.

It was worth watching. Better than most of the shows on today. Another of the shows that I liked that was canceled quickly. Maybe it was a summer replacement.

Been doing a bit of research the past hour and learned some interesting things.

For one, regarding cancellation, apparently the budget was the problem, which Wikipedia describes as "enormous." Filming took place on-location all around the world, so it makes sense that the show would've cost a lot of money to produce.

Another thing I've learned is that it's quite difficult to find the ACTUAL Young Indy Chronicles episodes today. In 1999, the original series (which consisted mostly of hour-long eps) was actually re-edited into 22 feature-length episodes, and THAT is what was released on DVD (under the title The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones).

There was this one episode where for the first part you had this taut, realistic, spy-drama with Indy in the Ottoman Empire... and then 45 minutes in he meeets Dracula.:D It was From Dusk till Dawn levels of content whiplash.

It was over a decade since I saw them... but I remember liking the episodes where Indy was a teenager and a young man, quality adventure stuff, though the early ones where he was a child I found quite boring.

Apparently during S1 there were five Child Indy eps and 10 Teenage Indy eps. By S2, there was only one Child Indy ep. So it seems that general sentiment was in line with your own.

Young Indy adventure knife!

Apparently this was a tie-in being offered back in the day. Something tells me we wouldn't see this today. There would be an outcry. We can't be giving knives to kids!

Bump for more replies.

C'mon, no one else watched this shit? Wasn't it popular in the early 90s?

*Raises hand.

It was a great show, as far as i can remember. That said, i was a kid back then and couldn't differentiate good shows from bad shows. I'd have no problem recommending it. Adventure type kind of show, solid characters (with the main one already established in movies, now being developed via prequels TV show), a few jokes here and there, with plot sometimes revolving around interesting historic events - i'd watch that now.

In hindsight, what you said about the budget, i can understand that it did cost a lot of money. A lot of stunts, explosions, on site filming etc...

I remember loving it as a little kid back when it was on tv.

The only things I can remember about it was Indy as an old man introduced the show I think?

And there was this one episode thats stuck with me where he was with the Belgian army fighting in the trenches in WW1, sad episode.

I'll take it over Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
