I started training bjj this summer near Detroit where I'm working but I'm going back to school at the end of August and there is no where to train in or near Kalamazoo. I make frequent trips to Ann Arbor however and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to train there.

    Let me know.

    Thanks

GRBJJ (Clint Crabtree) is the best BJJ school in the state and is an hour north of Kalamazoo. Several people from kalamazoo drive there for classes.

Otherwise Lightning kicks is a badass school. They have gi bjj class mon and wed I believe taught by a purple belt. Sometimes on saturdays Clint Crabtree teaches.

If you are down for judo at all Kalamazoo is the center of Judo for Michigan with Snyder and Westside Dojo's.

If you insist on AA, then Saulo BB Sean "Abdullah" Bansfield's school would be about your only choice that I'm aware of other then U of M's club which is run under Bansfield as well.

If you are talking about the U of M club, then yes it is great. One of the instructors is Rodrigo Nunes, he's a brown belt under Marcio Corrleta and affiliated with Winner Jiu Jitsu and Gladiator MMA in Brighton. He's a great instructor and very personable.

There's also East West Martial Arts which is in Canton. It's another 30 minutes east of Ann Arbor, but it's a good school.
