I had been wanting to play for a while. A bit ago I decided that I'm going to buy what I need and start playing. The wife kinda looked at me like I was crazy. Fast forward a little while to today..... Im at a court practicing my serve. Wife texts me... "how long are you going to be, you want me to meet you there. I don't have a racket though". I told her to just drive to meet me. I had bought her a racket at the same time as I bought mine and didn't tell her. I had a feeling she may want to start at some point. Anyhow, she was nervous at first but then she chilled out. She's never been a sports person. Mid way through our tennis time I looked over at her and said.... I told you that you would have a good time. She said I can't believe I haven't tried this sooner. This is so much fun. She had to call her sister and tell her how much fun she had(her sister loves tennis). Now my wife is asking when can we go again. So I have another tennis date with the wife scheduled for Saturday. I know not a big deal to some people but seeing the smile on her face while we were playing is something I haven't seen ever when it comes to sporting activities.

Yeah, it's a good game. I used to play a lot but it's something that just kind of slipped out of my routine over the years.

I play.
Tennis is a sport that takes a while to get decent at, glad you had fun although I guess there weren't many exchanges :)

I played it on the PS3 made L from Death Note got the grand slam that was a good game.

It's the only game I'm good at. Not that I'm really good or anything, but at least I don't super suck. Don't play it often enough these days. Most of my friends have moved to the suburbs so I can't just call someone up for an impromptu game.

But here's a random question for everyone. Are there lots of free outdoor courts where you live? We have lots here in parks and at high schools. Obviously you don't play while school is in session, but other than that, they are open to the public.

I'm just wondering because I've been to other countries where they have pay courts and I don't see free ones around. Just curious.

I hit the ball against a concrete wall every blue moon,

Not in years. Never competively, but I was pretty good 30 years ago. Fun sport, should have played it more...

I've always loved playing tennis. i used to play often when i met this guy on craigslist as a tennis buddy. it's best to find someone on your same skill level. it's no fun when you're kicking someone's ass or they're kicking yours.

Plenty of free courts around me. Some are at schools while others are at public/private parks. You just have to know/learn when to go to which court.

True.... But it is pretty awesome finding a sport that you and your wife both enjoy playing.

Used to, a lot. Now I kinda miss it...

Used to play all the time when I was younger but now with the walker and all, my game has lost it's spark.

I used to play competitively in high school & college on the teams. I play only occasionally now but I am always surprised at how well I still play despite not even playing monthly. It's a good sport and requires a lot of skill and athletic ability. It seems to be decreasing in popularity in America though.
