Late news I think but it seems the best armed forces of the PH got overkilled on a mission somewhere in the Philippines.

Thoughts? Is that kind of casualty a little too high? Upon reading further it seems reinforcements didnt arrive and no clear escape plans were established.

SAF commandos I think is the equivalent to the US navy seals or something like that, a specialized unit.

Who do you think is to blame for this high casualty mission?

Do you have a link with more details?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Mamasapano_clash

A police operation took place on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Tukanalipao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao, between the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) (allegedly joined by United States Army Special Forces and the Federal Bureau of Investigation) and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

I bet those soldiers were expecting some different kind of opposition from that MILF group.

SAF were all like... There's no Gorillas in the Philippines.

44 is an exorbitant amount of casualties, specifically for SF. If 44 SEALS were killed in one mission, you better believe they'd make a Hollywood blockbuster out of it in no time. There's a reason why SF are so highly praised; they do tough work and they're not supposed to die.

In 2011, a helo carrying 25 SEALS went down and was considered the biggest loss of life in a single day to any SPEC OPS organization ever.

RIP to these guys though, TS... Went out fighting the good fight.

Very few units in the entire world can compete with the US Navy SEALs. Filipino Commandos sure as shit don't.

As for what happened, if a true story, who the hell knows. Probably lack of proper training.

True. What I meant was they are like the seals of PH, the best special forces of the PH.

I'll be honest, the thread title made me think there was going to be a punchline when I clicked on the thread because the title is worded like a "did you hear about..." jokes.

Q: "Did ya hear about the 44 commandos who got slaughtered in the Philippines?"

A: (Insert Punchline Here)

There's no word better to describe what happened to that operation other than clusterfuck. Supposed to be a blackops or covert to a point that nobody knew the mission was on going. Not the president, the military, or even those commanders who were supposed to back them up. As I said, a total clusterfuck.

Seems like a situation no commando would wander into, let alone 44 of them....something doesn't seem right about this story to me. Maybe it happened but 44 commandos? Maybe 4, or maybe 44 regular soldiers.

A total of 44 SAF personnel were killed during the encounter. #Fallen44 became a worldwide trend on social media site Twitter as an effort to honor the 44 slain SAF members.[31] The SAF casualties were later dubbed as the Fallen 44. The incident saw one of the highest fatalities of government forces in a single peace time operation.

as per wikipedia.

I was in Manila after that went down, and heard details from my local colleagues. There was a massive bounty on some guys down south, and so some chief decided to collect and assembled an elite team to do it without notifying anyone.

When the SHTF, the military wasn't going to help, because they would lose out on the bounty if the op succeeded in capturing the targets.

Agreed , a lot of the special training that they receive is from the US military so basically they are still trying to learn and or catch up

Best?? Those were bunch of Police that went to war, that should have been handled by the military.

(and where did I read best? I think I'm hallucinating)

Most of them got executed - bullet to the head. They probably surrendered when they were ambushed by the group that they were tracking.

I read the news this morning, apparently there was another skirmish. 26 muslim seperatists dead, 2 from the military.

It all started with the stupid leaders getting greedy and wanting to claim the bounty and glory for capturing the wanted bomb maker. It failed big time and it's sad that those 44 had to die because of the retarded chain of command. WTF is up with the leadership from that country? They have many actors turned politicians and being corrupt as fukc then Pacquiao being a congressman and people down there are fine with it. smh

Those 44 PNP SAF that died are kinda like the equivalent to the LAPD SWAT. They should have sent the Philippines Army Rangers or the Philippines Marines. Also, the president of that country is soft and weak. No wonder why the Islamic fanatics are running the southern part of that country.

Sorry to hear about this, kapatid.
