ive gotten too comfortable only driving 5 minutes to work everyday for the last 10 years. Pretty soon i will have a 1 hour maybe more commute.. Kind of getting anxiety just thinking about it. Sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in southern california with everyone on their cell phones trying to stunt on each other. I just feel like even though ill be making more money and a good career move its just so stressful to drive all the time. I feel like im going to lose years of my life just from the dam daily grind of avoiding road rage in a long commute.

thanks for any thoughts, discussion.

I very rarely commute less than 45 minutes. For about a year I was driving well over an hour each way to get to work. It sucks, but you get used to it. If you enjoy listening to music, play music, it helps a lot. I would also recommend picking up an audio book. If you're going to be spending that much time in a vehicle try to find ways to be productive.

i both live and work in a city where i don't have a car. it takes me an hour to get to work via the metro and bus. and while it sucks having to wake up early, it's nice knowing that i'm going to get to relax once i get on both train and bus. it's also worth it, because my job pays for my transportation because i don't drive.

lol, you dont have a long commute
stop bitching

Current commute is 15 min to make it 1.5 miles, no highway, damn traffic lights.

Use to do 35-40 min each way. Anything longer is too much to drive daily. Part of the year I do an hour commute but it's on mass transit so I can read or play a game to pass the time.

Who pissed in your Cheerios?

An hour or more is a long commute. Spending two hours in the car each day takes a huge bite out of your time not at work or sleeping.

It used to take me about an hour to work and then about 75-90 minutes to get back. I hated it. Nothing is more draining then sitting in traffic for a long time. By the time I would get home I would be sleepy and lazy. I moved and now it's 15 minutes both ways. It's awesome. I would really hate to go back to what I used to do, if I got a new job that was far away I'd do my best to move closer to it

1 hr is nothing. if it bothers u that much take the coaster, pacific surfliner or train.

It won't be so bad. And if you have a great place to live, well worth it

Have some caffeine and listen to some awesome music (standup comedy skits work too).

My commute is 35-50 minutes each way.

Commute is about 15 - 20 minutes give or take traffic. I just listen to M&M on the way to work, and then usually Backspin since I can't stand LeBatard on the way home.

My longest commute has been 30 minutes. I'd rather move or find a new job than commute 1 hour+, it's just too much wasted time over the years.

Hour each way? Fvck that! The national average is 20 minutes, btw. So yes an hour is absolutely excessive.

Wanna do some maths? You sleep eight hours a night. Or less, but with shower, breakfast, chores, call it eight hours. So those eight hours dont count because no matter what they will never change.

That leaves 16 hours in the day. Call this your 'conscious life'. Youre going to be spending 8 hours a day working, 2 driving, and probably one on lunch. Thats 11/16 of your day. Worked out over a week and including weekends that comes to exactly half of your conscious life. Half of your life will be spent in your car, at work, eating lunch, on your ass, not truly living. I really hope you like what you do and dont value your health because thats 50% of every single year of your life you are throwing away if you dont.

Settling for only half of your life to live the way you want is a pretty big rip off if you ask me.

Edit (addition to rant); stop listening to people that tell you to make yourself unhappy because it is a 'good career move.' Fvck those people and their miserable fvcking lives. Did you know studies have shown 70k to be the golden salary - people that make more than that are found to be less happy? Its just like straight A students with all the associated pressure being fvxking miserable. Society is at large fvcked man, take this one small step away from what others think you should do and follow your heart. It will feel liberating and open many doors to do the same in the future.

Nlss of course, you are truly happy. Then ignore the above.

Sign up with audible. Start listening to audio books and get smarter during your commute.

I moved far away from my home town and live in the middle of nowhere now. 4 hour drive to the next closest city. I've listened to more audio books than I can count and am definitely more educated from it.

My commute is between 15 mins (if im lucky) to 2 hours (if unlucky).

About the max I would willfully drive to work is 20 minutes. Any longer and that's just killer.

Do you have SiriusXM?

I used to commute from Costa Mesa to Fullerton to Huntington Beach and back to Costa Mesa. Most of my commute was in traffic, I spent hours of my day in my car in order to go to school and train at kings

audiobooks man. i would forget im driving and sometimes would be pissed i got home quickly because i want to know what happens next. audible is cheap and easy, but most major series are available to pirate
