A guy had me in a darce-like position tonight, only the pressure ended up more on my sternum/pectoral area. So three or four ribs in my sternum popped in succession, really quickly. And this during a passing drill, whatever.

Anyway, it's pretty tender right now. Feels like it will be sore as hell tomorrow. I'm about to ice it.

Anyone else ever have something like this? How long for the pain to subside? Did this type of thing start happening more after the first time?

Ribs take a long time to heal. I popped/broke a few ribs about 2 years ago to the point that my rib cage is permanently deformed (like Chael Sonnen). Took about 6 weeks to get back on the mats for super light training, and quite a few months for the pain to subside. In fact, although they are pretty solid now, they still hurt in some positions. The good news is that they have not gotten re-injured since.

My very first practice, I had my ribs pop from too much body weight on the chest. I thought I had broken 3 or 4 ribs, turned out to just be pulled muscles. I took a shower after practice, planning to go to the ER afterward, and the hot water took away the pain temporarily. Ibuprofen, heat, was marginally ok for practice two days later. Same thing happened to the other side of my chest on the second day of practice. Took 4 days off before coming back.
I guess the muscles adapted - hasn't happened again.

I never want to feel what actual broken ribs feel like.

I hope you are ok, and it is just sore muscles.

It happened to me once, we were drilling the torreando and I was on the bottom. It hurt like a bitch and stupidily I continued training through it.

It's not necessarily the ribs, it could be the cartilage or the muscles too. I would go easy until it gets better if I were you.

:D

It's been about 12 hours or so now, and it's a bit sore, but not excruciating. I'm honestly more worried about a hot date I've got tonight more than training because pushups are a bitch right now

pics of the broad or I don't believe you.

I popped an intercostal muscle where my ribs met my sternum. Had to stop lifting/doing pushups etc and took almost 8 months to heal. Had to baby/protect it for at least 3 months as I didn't take enough time off to let it heal. Went to sports ortho to get a cortizone shot but that just masked the pain/injury for a few weeks.

I popped my sternum (in the middle, not a rib as near as I can tell) a year or two ago and it still flares up every now and again. Take care of yourself.

You actually live close enough you might try to cock block me, lol. Give me a week or two, lol.

It's not as bad today as I thought. It was just weird to go all the way down like a neck or knuckles popping. I do a lot of pull ups so hopefully it has kept my rib cage supple. A broken rib would suck donkey balls.

Dude, I'm engaged....You are good to go homie.
Well tell you're future ex-wife I said hello. lol, j/k man. I just split up with my old lady, so I'm a bit cynical on marriage right now, but it's also the reason a hot 25 year old is coming over to my house to cook for me in a few hours, heheh

LMAO...you can tell my actual ex wife you said hello if you want. Don't be too cynical on marriage if you find the right one but also have fun. I had ALOT of fun with Tinder while I was single. Was dating a 23 year old for a few months (I was 31 at the time) among a few others. But enjoy it.

Hey man, my wife was 10 and some change years older than me, we were together 11 years, since I was 26. Now I'm 37 dating a girl that's 25. You do the math. My point is, you don't miss girls that are in their 20s when you are also iin your 20s NEARLY as much as you appreciate them when you are in your 30s. Pay it forward, fellas. It works.

 boy are you ever right. Fiance is 27, i'm 32. Ex wife is 32 (we were high school sweethearts). Enjoy the 25 year old but don't catch any feelings homie.

I'm a sucker, man. We'll see.

Last week, I got put in that "suffocater" which Barnett submitted Lister with. I didn't think much of it, neither suffocated nor felt extraordinary pain and just stayed there for 40 seconds until the guy tried something else. However, a few minutes later and especially in the following days I started to feel serious pain in my chest area which is still present now. It doesn't feel like something is broken, though. It's interesting that this move can take that kind of effect.

Also, a few years back a Muay Thai guy actually broke one of my ribs simply by applying tremendous pressure with his legs from the normal closed guard (it wasn't a scorpion rib crush, he really just squeezed with his legs like crazy while laying back). That took four months to heal.

Update: Chest feels fine, guess it was just a pop, it was definitely a hell of a squeeze.

Now if just my knee would get better!
