Anyone else worried for people's immune systems in the long run due to preventative measures?

All this utilization of hand sanitizer, masks, social distancing and general lack of exposure to the outside world (and sun) I believe will have a big effect of people's immune systems, especially kids who have a tiny risk of death from Covid-19, but have a huge risk in not developing a strong immune system. Many studies show that if a pacifier dropped on the ground, sticking it in was healthier for the child in the long run than washing/sterilizing it, unless there was extremely dangerous pathogens (which is usually not the case in the average western household).

Does anyone else think this might end up as bad an effect as Covid exposure (at least to younger generations)? A weaker immune system means more common and severe illnesses/infections, meaning someone that got an infection is more likely to die if they have a weaker immune system. Given that every single person in most countries are likely to have weaker immune systems, this could lead to many deaths that otherwise would not happen.

I think people for the overwhelmingly most part, just started getting to normal healthy levels of hand washing; not excessive. Before this, I would wager most people well below levels they should've been at all along.

I was thinking the same thing. In June, July and August when nobody hardly ever has respiratory illness symptoms, now is the time to start exposing ourselves to germs, so that we have antibodies this Fall and Winter. We are healthier and more resistant to many respiratory illnesses now in the summertime. Because right now we are really building our vitamin D being in the summer sun and getting more fresh air for longer periods

Absolutely. Make room for an incredible increase in allergies etc. I’m a custodial engineer, household products and desinfectants are poison if you use them too much.

I dunno. I've read/seen some pretty dark shit on here over the years.

yet I'm still alive.

Oh, no no no. Desinfecting your hands with alcohol is absolutely overkill.

I think encouraging people to wash their filthy fucking mitts is definitely going to do for us , we should stop it forthwith.

I said washing your hands.

But besides the link between triclosan and bacteria resistance, what's your issue? Send me some peer reviewed links.

In medicine, the hygiene hypothesis states that early childhood exposure to particular microorganisms (such as the gut flora and helminth parasites) protects against allergic diseases by contributing to the development of the immune system.[1][2] In particular, a lack of exposure is thought to lead to defects in the establishment of immune tolerance.[1] The time period for exposure begins in utero and ends at school age.[3]

Once the kids are back at school, i dont think social distancing is a very practical measure for them and they will be back to catching things from one another pretty soon. I think this immune system argument was a bit of a red herring used to protest the lockdown measures and not convinced that there will be a significant effect.

No

A year or six months of washing our hands isn’t going to move the needle
What's going to happen in the next 3-9 months(it's already been 3) that will make everyone stop washing their hands?
