Anyone else think Gus' legacy is on the line with his next few fights?

With DC moving up and potentially not returning and with guys like Jones/Rumble gone, he pretty much has no excuses to not hold the strap for a while. He's come close as hell 2x now against the 2 LHW GOATs in the UFC. The landscape is pretty much set for him to win the belt vs OSP or whoever and defend vs guys like Glover, Volkan, Jimi etc. and maybe some big 185ers coming up like Rockhold or Weidman.

If he loses his next title fight I think his legacy will be impacted in a huge way. I think now people still recognize him as still the #2 or #3 top guy in the division who's given Jones and DC their toughest title defenses. If he chokes on a 3rd opportunity against some dude like OSP I think even as a huge Gus fan I would accept that he simply cannot win the big fights when the gold is on the line and is a choker. Their's no reason why he shouldnt be champ sometime next year, whether DC gives him a 2nd chance or not if DC goes back down after the Stipe fight (which I doubt happens, especially if DC loses to Stipe).

Once DC is gone he's pretty much the only truly elite P4P level guy at the top of the division - not saying Volkan cannot improve cuz he's a total killer and can easily become more well rounded, just not right now. Gus is just at the next tier above guys like OSP, Glover, Manuwa, Cirkunov, Volkan etc.

True it definelty seems like he should have it for awhile. But then again volkan is pretty dangerous standing and osp finds ways to win. If he beats those two then he's pretty much in the clear

Yes it's on the line. DC will be back at LHW after fighting Stipe, and I personally agree with him that Gus needs to fight in the interim and just needs to fight more in general.
