Title says it all. They don't have any meaning anymore.

I'm sick of healthy champions not defending their titles, especially after they rant on and on about how champions should be stripped for not being active enough in their division

Only when they are not needed.

Examples: Conor vs Mendes. Jose vs Frankie.

I care for them about zilch one way or the other. I watch MMA for the action. The title in general only really intrigues me so far as the competitors involved

The Edgar/Aldo II interim title fight is an abomination among interim titles.

Created just to facilitate a healthy champ taking 2 consecutive fights outside of the division only in an attempt to set up a third(RDA/Alvarez winner presumably).

Yeah they are fucking stupid lol.

But, at least they can provide for some lolz.

Not as much as preferential treatment

Like why is Jon Jones an interim champ? Makes no sense

they are good for motivating lazy or injured champs

Nah, they are a promotional tool and they are necessary. Conor is holding up the FW division with his other ambitions so to make sure there is still excitement in that division why not give an interim title. Jones is the champion at LHW, so his first fight back had to be for a belt, DC wanted to be in perfect health for his inevitable beatdown loss so he pulled out. In that case you have to give Jon a chance at a share of the LHW title, therefore an interim belt is necessary. In truth DC's is the interim champ, not Jones. There really haven't been enough interim belts in the UFC's history to be sick of them. They are all about promotion and I don't mind them in the least.

I'm more sick of champs that only defend their title once a year.

It's better than having a intercontinental title, us title, world title, hardcover titles,

They have a place in MMA because sometimes a champ is just always injured and you need to keep title fights going, but some of the decisions the UFC has made recently devalues the already low prestige value of it. Have them to keep divisions rolling, don't make them just to stuff cards with title fights that don't mean anything.

It sucks. But they are good for fighters. The Reebok pay structure pays more for title fights. So fighters can potentially earn more because of them

I know why they are used but sometimes they shouldn't be used.
Ie:
Jon Jones
Frank Mir

Sounds like an oxymoron to me (J/K). I am the most adamant hater of the mythical interim titles and have been so since day one here.

One thing I will never honestly understand is a rational of what is keeping a champion from defending their belt.

Look, we all want to see titles get defended. Set a time frame for the mandatory title defense and don't worry about the reason.

It is NO FREAKING DIFFERENT if the champion is on death's bed, or uncontrollably masturbating in the time between their defenses. We miss the title fight EXACTLY THE SAME.

With all of these Sherdoggers being fine with no title defense from a champion with a boo-boo or a cold (health related issues) you would think the FTD florist would be retiring early from all the flowers and fruit baskets you fruit cakes should be sending out being so concerned!

I hate them! No one in history has said, "hey, that was the GOAT of interim champions!"

makes bigger spectacle they can keep going I only care about the fights
