This is pretty much what's happening.Ask for the raise, with no extra responsibilities. If and when they say no, push back a little, tell them how much of a performer you are. At this point you can acquiesce a little and offer to pick up some more responsibility for the raise. Make sure they know you're serious about wanting a raise, embellish a little. If they still say no, secure an offer from another company and start playing hardball. Make sure they know that you will walk if you have to.

1. Be educated and confident.
2. Listen. Adress hot buttons, needs and wants.
3. Ask Questions. With those questions build value. "So If I hear you correctly, you see the value in......"
4. Close without hesitation by telling them what you want with facts and opinions mixed in. Always leave room for wiggle.
