Was shocked by this, Khabib is amazingly effective against the cage, less so in the centre, just take a look at some of his other fights. But dustin didn't even try that hard for the centre. holding the centre is 100% part of the gameplan to best khabib.

They knew what they had to do.

    They just couldn't do it.

    Khabib is that good.

Yes, I was screaming "get away from the cage!" to the screen lol. His corner also said this to him in between rounds but he seemed to didn't listen.

It was so annoying that after the first 30 seconds or so in round 2 he just started backing up to the cage again after having some success pushing Khabib back, he wasn't landing many shots or anything but he was making Khabib uncomfortable which was at least a start.

Wrong, he's worse in the centre. watch his al aqiunta fight. He got stuffed in the centre. only got it once away from the cage and that was in the first round.

It was frustrating to watch. I know its easy to say in hindsight, but he just was too caught up in the magnitude of the fight and wasn't thinking about the game plan.

Once Khabib gets his hands on guys they panic. Within the first round they are just trying to survive, which leads to short-sightedness and bad tactical decisions because in a panic you aren't thinking one or two steps ahead, you're thinking of what the hell you're going to do RIGHT NOW to get out of the situation. That state of mind can bring urgency to striking and land you a lucky shot but is a death sentence when you're playing chess on the ground with a silverback gorilla.

yes honestly. thing is you do have to respect khabibs striking. everything he trows, he throws hard. but his footwork is funky and confusing to read so when you think you are looking for a counter, hes just backing you up.

    his striking is very underrated.

This, Khabib can shoot in open spaces too. Not only that he's dropping fools (LOL mcgregor).

I think the correct way to say this is that Khabib's striking is heavily underrated as a pressure tool and a tool for setting up his takedowns. In this regard, Khabib's striking is phenomenal. Fedor masterfully combined striking (with real power) and grappling and flowed between the two actions effortlessly, but Khabib's striking is honed specifically to open up more opportunities for his grappling and make those grappling opportunities easier to capitalize on. Different kinds of weapons, but both work effectively.

I'm more surprised that nobody goes on the offensive and initiates the grappling exchanges. They should just start throwing bombs to get Khabib backing up then blast a double. Everyone knows Khabib is going to grapple, so why not just be the one that puts Khabib on his back and see how he reacts from the bottom instead of just trying to defend. Everyone is so scared to grapple with him I don't know why they even come to fight.

He tried once and took Khabib down. Imagine if he tried 27 times like Khabib did.
