About 112 out of 318 million Americans have passports. So it's fair to say that many, many millions of Americans have never left the US.

Are you one of them, and if so, was it a matter of money, or just a lack of interest?

That was many!

Explains american ethnocentrism. But i bet plane tickets cost a lot.

I have been to 15 countries at least.

I have a friend who has never left CA. It's very weird to me. He blames it on money but I say it's all about priorities.

Never left Cali??

That's crazy, unless it's a money issue. But if he could and just chooses not to, that's pretty unusual I think.

I've never been away from the East Coast, and any further north than Baltimore.

Spending a year abroad should become a compulsive part of higher education curriculum. High Schools/Upper/Secondary schoolsshould have some kind of Twin Town exchange program too. Where you spend a fortnight in there Home and then return the experience hosting a foreigner in your home.

To be fair to Americans most Brits only leave the country on their holidays to find hot weather. If you could get guaranteed dry, 30C+ weather in Aberystwyth, Skegness and Bognor Regis etc most Brits wouldn't have a passport either.

Yeah, I can see not leaving if your home is comfortable and the weather is nice. But for me, I get a thrill out of seeing new places. And it would seem like most people would be curious enough to at least visit a few other countries.

It also depends on your age though. People under the age of, say 20, are less likely to have traveled outside the US.....I'm guessing.

Traveled while I was in the USMC. and after as well.
