Anybody here ever climb the career ranks through a department store?

I worked in the produce department of a grocery store. After 5 long years, I quit. So no. I did not work myself up I guess would be the point of the story.
 
A buddy of mine is a big shot at bed bath and beyond. He started as a cashier.

All the managers have flipped burgers

I don't just mean store managers though. I was told corporate too. Regional headquarters, etc.
 
LOL I hate typing on my tab dude worked at Nordstrom moved up ladder he's an easy going guy with great personality biggest success trait for dudes in non specific skilled occupations
 
No I worked as a labourer and painter/decorator as a teen.

All my friends worked retail but I ddnt because I thought i could not handle dealing with customers/the general public.
 
I dunno about "career ranks" and not sure if Walmart qualifies as a department store but @Breakitdown once climbed to the third shelf of the Walmart soda isle before his rascal capsized
