Curious to see if anyone else here is into the old school Shaw brothers Kung-fu movies that Wu tang made popular?

Some of the most badass fight scenes ever:

Favorites:

Masked Avengers
5 Element Ninjas
Kid With The Golden Arm
Red Shaolin Master
Shoalin vs Lama

Yours?

the one with the guy that throws that hat looking thing over people's heads that decapitates them.

Kung Fu movies are awesome! Shaw Brothers put out so many good titles back in the day.

Some of my personal favorites are (in no particular order)

1. Five Elements Ninjas
2. Heroes of the East
3. The Duel (1971)
4. Return of the One-Armed Swordsman
5. Return of the Five Deadly Venoms
6. Born Invincible
7. Master of the Flying Guillotine

and I'm sure there's a ton more that I'm forgetting about.

Last battle is one of the sickest scenes in cinema.

Love how the bad guys descend in that elevator-thing. It's like an old school beat-em-up game where the bosses arrive one after the other.

Pretty cool bad guys too. They were really gruesome -- slaughtering people left and right. Definitively one of those movies that has a hard edge to it.

My favorite old-school Kung Fu film is a fairly unknown one called Last Hurrah for Chivlarly. It was directed by John Woo before he started making action movies. Just an fucking epic movie.

This. One of the darkest, grittiest of the genre. Easily some of the best characters ever.

Some amazing films that I barely see discussed online.

Beach of the War Gods
Judgment of an Assassin
The Leg Fighters
Seven Grandmasters
The 18 Bronzmen (hell any Bronzmen film is great -- especially the second one with Carter Wong)

Oh sh*t, how could I forget about that, that one was badass!

Was it Shaolin Executioners?

Master of the Flying Guillotine? That's a good film but I prefeer the film that it was a sequel to -- The One-Armed Boxer. It's just a funnier film.

6. Born Invincible

Any film with Carter Wong is an instant 10/10:cool:

The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter is another unmistakable classic. Some of the best, most exciting fight scenes in the entire genre and just an epic story to boot.

Was it Shaolin Executioners?

Shaolin Executioners was one of those films that I thought suffered a lot due to it's "humor". The premise is just awesome -- having him train to kill that invincible master and then have his son take up the mantle. Talk about a quick-ending though.

Kid With The Golden Arm

Kid With The Golden Arm is definitively one of the best when it comes to just being a series of fights. That movie is all about introducing cool characters and having them batter each other. Next to no story needed.

Same director as Golden Arm and Masked Avengers too, Chang Cheh. He really is the master of the Kung Fu genre, just made a boatload of great films, including The One-Armed Swordsman, another one of the all-time greats.

@europe1 had the one i was thinking of, Master of the Flying Guillotine

Fatal Flying Guillotines is one of the cash-ins of Master. That "guillotine" weapon was so cool and popular that they produced a whole slew of films that centered upon it. Fatal Flying Guillotines is really good though -- and not just because it stars Carter Wong;)

Of course, Mortal Kombat took a bit of inspiration from it as well.

Fuck yeah! My favorite is the Thundering Mantis. Just for the last 10 minutes, though the rest of the movie helps amplify insanity of that scene.

Surprised to hear this one is fairly unknown. I remember renting it from Blockbuster back in the day and even buying the VHS eventually. Great movie!

The bar scene in Dance of the Drunken Mantis is one of my favorite fight scenes.
