With the recent success from Sambo guys in the UFC like Khabib and Zabit, and of courses Fedor’s recent win; I want to know what someone who trains Sambo sees.

So if you train Sambo or have in the past please give me your opinion and insights as to what you see being used int the UFC and mma today. Thank you in advance!

Don't interrupt the discussions of couch potatoes here with your nonsense.

I'm from Russia. I have Sambo in my blood.

Yes, Russian newborns get injected with Sambo serum to make them instant killing machines, the rumors are true.

Zabit is not Sambo guy. If you go to his Russian wiki page it says that he trained in freestyle wrestling, kickboxing, football (soccer) and Sanda.

People are always trying to find out which MA is the best. We all went through the process. There is not a thing as best martial arts (especialy looking at it from MMA perspective). Sometimes wrestler wins, sometimes judo guy, sometimes boxer...etc. We have even seen an unskilled street fighter beats well rounded fighter. There are only best martial artist, the people who train the hardest, who wants it the most and who makes the least mistakes when the fight night comes. We have seen many times where the much less skilled fighter beat a much more superior fighter. Usually it only happens when the better fighter makes a mistake.

You've come to the right place. Most Sherdoggers are high level sambo practitioners.

I don't specifically train Sambo, but I know the perfect style / technique that beats it every time (I've proven this out hundreds of times) - which is a well timed clean uppercut to the chin. Knocks the sucker clean out.

I trained sambo a bit, alongside judo when I was younger - not combat sambo, just sport sambo. I think it just brings many of the same qualities that, say traditional judo brings, plus a hunger for Achilles locks. Sure, combat sambo has elements of striking that helps for the transition to mma, like striking into takedowns, striking to get the attention of an opponent, then switching it up when they get drawn in.

Sambo is a really nice sport, but unless you train it from Russia/ex-Soviet Republics, you will most likely be not good at Sambo, it is difficult to find a high level place outside of the ex-Soviet Republics. Even Japanese Sambo players (good judo players, too), as well as the French don't do very well in it.
