I am a big fan of Joe Rogan podcast and I have noticed that Joe Rogan is always mentioning how there are so many fake spiritual people and tons of snobs in the yoga community.

But then I have noticed that, few times he has talked well about Kundalini yoga and in one of the podcasts I was listning to, he said something like "Kundalini yogis seem the most humble and sincere yogis and I have never really met kundalini yoga practioner with a bad attitude"

Curious to know if anyone practices this particular style of yoga and can give some insight on what makes kundalini yogis more down to earth?

Kundalini yoga is awesome. The movements (that I've done) are very basic but the main emphasis is on breath.

How has it improved your life ever since you started practicing kundalini yoga?

Kundalini Yoga (Sanskrit kuṇḍalinī-yoga कुण्डलिनी योग), also known as laya yoga, is a school of yoga. Based on a 1935 treatise by Sivananda Saraswati, kundalini yoga was influenced by the tantra and shakta schools of Hinduism.

Kundalini yoga derives its name through a focus on awakening kundalini energy through regular practice of meditation, pranayama, chanting mantra and yoga asana.[1] Called by practitioners "the yoga of awareness", it aims "to cultivate the creative spiritual potential of a human to uphold values, speak truth, and focus on the compassion and consciousness needed to serve and heal others.

Kundalini is extremely dangerous. Don't play around with that.

I am in maha kundalini yoga which is a meditative path with initiation, etc. There are different programs called kundalini yoga, I think some being like classes you can go to like physical (hatha) yoga. Our teachings cover hatha yoga and pranayam (breathing exercises), mantra, and focus primarily on meditation.

Maybe why kundalini yogis are down to earth is because it can leave the mind in a place of contentment, or, in the detox mode it can just be tired from the energy the practices generate.

Wii Yoga was scientifically proven to be more effective and safer then kundalini yoga.

Jesus man, strong avatar that goes well with your comment! :icon_twis

But seriously, why is it dangerous? I have heard this before but without any details as to what makes it dangerous.

Could you supply some context? I am well aware that spiritual practices can bring about some very unwanted results. But fear of them has never trumped my curiosity.

I've had a friend put in a spinal brace from that stuff. My advice would "protect ya neck."

Some forceful methods of awakening kundalini may pose additional dangers. Without proper guidance practices involving extensive concentration or breath retention can cause mental imbalance or physical discomfort

Ive heard similar about stuff involving chakras and what not. You have to be do the exercises right or it can negatively impact your health

Copy. Probably not enough to keep my hand out the cookie jar though.

Awakened kundalini can cause all kinds of involuntary movements in meditation, mood changes and other experiences known as kriyas. It is likened to turning on a hose that will then move all about from the water pressure. It is considered to be cleansing but the effects can be debilitating especially without guidance. Some people can't even meditate because of pain in different areas, or stuff in their life seems to get really screwed up. I think there are some pretty intense stories on the google. Teachers emphasize that it is not directly the fault of kundalini, just like soap and water may be painful on an infection.

Well I'm not familiar with Yoga, but I know a lot about Kundalini. Its basically raising the energy in your groin along the path of your spine, through your chakaras to explode through your third eye. Long story short, you can have a bad awakening and go insane. There is a book by Gopi Krishna who detailed his experience...which was a bad awakening. He nearly fried his enternal organs due to the potent energy.

If you awaken kundalini successfully you will basically be a living god. Also when you awaken the energy, you won't be able to function in society, because normal people will think you are crazy. You wont be able to keep a job. Most people who awaken it, move away from society. So if you depend on money in order to function (rely on paychecks), its not something you want to awaken. But a successful awakening is pure bliss.

There are many who have initiation, meaning it is awakened, and keep a balance and live and work in society, but the emphasis is not to do it without guidance. The work of the energy is not instant in most. It may take decades or lifetimes to pierce all the chakras, removing all obstacles and reaching the goal.

Its difficult to do though. From what I've read, you get visions and shit. The energy is constantly fucking with your mind. Concentration brings excrutiating pain. And if you awaken it wrong, you are in for a really messed up time. The worse part is, no doctor will be able to treat you, because all the stuff that is happening to you is happening on a different plane. They won't be able to detect anything wrong with you.

I've tried to awaken it myself. Got to the beginning stages, but then stopped once I learned of the risks.
