Antonio Margarito training for a fall return

It's tough to tell someone they can't have a payday, too.

There is always that to consider when they are looking at sanctioning these bouts.

They can make money with other means than getting their brains further scrambled. Theres no way these guys are actually passing legitimate protocols for fight licenses. They can barely form a sentence.

NY approved his fight with Cotto with one eye so I don't think he will have trouble finding a fight anywhere.

I know what you mean, but were do Sugar Shane and Margarito go? Wall Street? High finance? Where are they going to pull down a few million with these "other means"? I'm just saying that HAS to factor in. It's a bad position to be in if you make that call. I'm not trying to keep a man from earning money, but you're right. There comes a point where they need to be protected from themselves when it comes to getting in the ring. Fine line, tho. That's all I'm saying.

There does come a point.

Too bad money gets in the way. US commissions are better than other places I suppose but clearly they are corruptible as well.

I called out by earlier but it's a combat sport wide problem. Jeff Monson has had fights in the is over the past five years for God sakes. One of them was under zuffa run Strikeforce. Dude limps to the ring. And he was approved...for a professional fight.

If margarito could make 147 or 154 I think he could be a legit opponent for a championship. possibly win

He has not fought in four years and has one eye

154 is sort of shit right now though. K9 Bundrage is a legit top 10 right now and has a belt.I would pick Tony to beat Bundrage, even considering the issues ou mentioned.

In California, if you are a professional boxer over the age of 35, you have to take extra tests in order to be able to compete. I can almost guarantee that both Shane and Mayorga completed most of their meds before the fight was even announced. Here is a link to the California application:

Your comment that they are failing "legitimate protocols" has no merit here without any evidence to the contrary.

I can almost guarantee that if he applies for a license in California or Nevada, he will have to provide additional documentation from a specialist that his eye is okay. I don't know much about Texas, but if his comeback fight is in California, Las Vegas, or either New York or New Jersey, he will be subject to more rigorous requirements for licensing.

I would have thought that about NY but he had his last fight there. It didn't come under scrutiny though until they sold 18k+ tickets though.

I thought he mostly didn't look (eye) crippled until near the end but I didn't see it on tv live. I was on the nosebleeds and could honestly offer 0 credible opinion on him in fight.

The danger of litigation stemming from him suffering irreversible eye damage would make it a no brainer for any respectable commission IMO.

There's always Texas or Mexico.

Texas would licence him for sure. Fuck the Cole family.

I am a little surprised that people are so unanimously against this, but not so much against a clearly punchdrunk Shane Mosley continuing to fight. It seems as though Shane could be trembling and unable to speak a coherent sentence by time he's 50, but people always seem more concerned with Margarito potentially losing vision in an eye that has been cleared by a doctor and has had over 3 years to fully heal.

People are being vocal about it because he hasn't been fighting for a few years so if he makes a comeback he would be putting himself at risk all over again.

Lots of us are horrified that Mosley keeps fighting but he hasn't stopped so there just isn't any reason to talk about it most of the time. If he announced his retirement then made a comeback we would be up in arms about it all over again I'm sure.

I didnt say or imply the income potential is the same as a fight purse. Plenty of fighters are successful after their fight career though. Gyms, commentary, coaching, etc.

Doctors swear to uphold standards of safety. Letting these guys fight is completely against that.

Dont need someone to try and educate me about getting licensed. Im well aware of the process.

Youre delusional if you think guys like Toney and Shane are passing legitimate testings to get cleared.

Margs eye wont hold up. Hes too tough for his own good.

nope. I mean everyone fighting him is going to target it,and its just gonna be like his last fight, where the ref is going, you cant see its over and marg going what the fuck im still alive, dont stop it.

Damn Manny ! You ruined the way of Margo's shot to fight Floyd.

But, I wouldn't be bother if Margarito fights Angulo. So entertainment match right there.
