Blacks were excluded from participating in what enabled the largest explosion of middle class migration in the world - homeownership and the ability to secure financing.

Due to the 'system', blacks were redlined into ghettos. To this very day, when controlled for all other factors such as credit history, blacks are denied home loans on a much higher average than whites. Further, those who got lucky and were able to afford homes, see the equity value in such rise at a much slower pace than their white counterparts.

So you tell me. Likely your grandfather, and many men like him, returned from WW2 and became the greatest generation as they used the gi bill to buy homes with little picket fences, opened up small businesses that contributed to growing, thriving communities, and in general started to accumulate assets that could be passed generationally.

Meanwhile black soldiers were legally forced into the shittiest neighborhoods. They did not qualify for home loans, which made them permanent renters with zero equity. They were denied small business loans, which meant their communities relied on whites to come in and 'sell' to them. They weren't given car loans, and in general, were excluded from the opportunity to start to accumulate assets and wealth.

And even if you were a poor white with absolutely no resources? Generally, you still had the opportunity to apply for student loans and better your life. And a poor black? Who has most likely gone to a horrible school district, given the lack of funding, should he somehow do good enough to make it to college? Nope. Not accepted. No student loans.

So, 'the system' basically herds a group of people into a shitty little area, denies them the opportunity to better themselves meanwhile middle class America is exploding, and those WW2 grandfathers are now providing a nice little nest egg for their kids, your parents, which led to a decent education, decent healthcare, a relatively safe place to live, and most of all, opportunity, for both them and you. Meanwhile blacks are not allowed to participate in the ownership class, not allowed to improve themselves, had little to no healthcare and denied the basic tools (financing) that whites used as the number one characteristic of being middle class - home ownership.

Furthermore, you introduce a monied bail system that blackmails people into copping a plea, because they don't have the assets to bail out, and don't want to sit in jail and await trial for 2 years. Even then, it's the police officers word vs the 'ghetto' kid. Gee. I wonder who they will believe. So people cop pleas all the time and this ultimately compounds the problem.

Big surprise that their communities are filled with crime and desperation.
