Anti-Hero Tim Kennedy

Most people don't realize that sociopaths have this unique ability to hypnotize themselves -- desensitizing themselves to consequences, mental/physical pain, etc. and can justify any actions they take, making them typically deviants. Tim meanwhile is a high level professional athlete, had great TV programs out there and promotes overall good
Buddy, plenty of professional athletes and tv celebrities are scum bags. These aren’t noble pursuits

Dude's definitely a sociopath but he's obviously put his sociopathy to great use and become a great member of society. Usually his types are slinging dope and in and out of prison, stealing cards and credit card type shit. I have a lot of admiration for his accomplishments.

Yeah yeah toss me a couple off color comments he's made over the course of 20 years of MMA, SOF, television, etc. but I take people in their totality. I'm also fortunate enough to have trained with him and at a couple of his instructors BJJ schools and they are absolutely amazing human beings, which is what Tim seems to surround himself with.

Would 100% recommend. It's great training if even expensive. I'm hella jealous one of my JJ coaches just gave my buddy a coin for a free 2 day class from Sheedog.

I highly recommend the book,

The Wisdom of Psychopaths: Lessons in life from Saints, Spies and Serial Killers

By Professor Kevin Dutton.

Dutton, a world renowned expert in the field, points out that most Psychopaths can live not only law-abiding but extremely productive lives. Many top Surgeons, Lawyers, Special Operation soldiers etc are high-functioning Psychopaths and more likely to save your life than end it.

I’ve met Tim, trained with him as well.

The persona he gives off in interviews and the like is absolutely not how he is in person. Dude was great.

Took his multiple day sheepdog response class for cops. He and his guys busted their asses to give a damn good grappling, fighting and shooting course.

Got to train and shoot with him personally, he gladly took pictures with us, and was fairly down to earth. Absolutely better then the majority of “high end” instructors you usually see training the PD.

All that said, I see why people dislike him.

Cliffs on the Sheepdog Course for civilians like me who've never heard of it? I assume the name is a reference to the theory that humans are split into three types: Sheep(non-violent, potential victims)Wolves(criminals etc)and Sheepdogs(cops, soldiers etc).

Their law enforcement class is 3 days. 2 days of grappling and range time. Each is a half day gym grappling/combatives and half day pistol at the range. I took it in Vegas and we trained at Wanderlei’s gym

Covers some basics for grappling, takedowns, etc. Day 2 is putting it all together and the addition of grappling with plastic knives and pistols. Grappling with weapons involved is a completely different dynamic and one of the most valuable aspects of the course.

Pistols is learning to shoot fast and accurate. Shooting in the move, dynamic shooting and partner shooting. I did a buddy drag with Tim where both he and I were shooting targets as I moved him across the range. It was actually super useful and pretty hilarious too.

Last day was rifle/carbine. Again, speed and accurate shots were the goal. Moving and shooting, transitions between pistol and rifle when your rifle would go down, etc.

Tim was very hands on with it all. Grappled with people in the defense portion. Shot with all of us on the range.

All the instructors are SF, SEALS or Rangers with a lot of overseas experience and real world trigger time. Grappling instructors are all black belts as well.

It's not easy having to deal with being a professional killer. You get some extreme personalities to do some extreme jobs.

He's also the posterboy for full blown ADHD, which is something that rubs some people the wrong way.

I doubt Stann had to do the same kinds of tasks Tim had to.

At the end of the day do you think he has saved people's lives and is that his intention when doing his job? I think so. That'sall that matters to me, anyway.
I suspect Tim’s jacked up on something too , whether legal or illegal. Some videos he’s full on manic , which could
The “silent professional” is dead, replaced by self-promoting jerks. Honestly, I blame Jocko for setting this trend. SEALs have always had a reputation for being loud (writing books and all) but now it feels like everyone has a podcast or is trying to be the next big social media personality. It’s no longer about the mission or the values of their profession, it’s about chasing money and fame. And it’s incredibly off-putting.

I remember during the early months of the war in Ukraine, some of these guys were posting pictures of themselves LARPing in Kyiv. Seriously? What the actual hell are you doing?

The more I see or hear from them, the less respect I have. O’Neill (the guy who claims he killed OBL) comes off as a massive asshole. DJ Shipley seems like a terrible person, Shawn Ryan is clearly just cashing in, and Tim Kennedy… well, it’s Tim Kennedy.

Drawing attention to themselves undermines everything their profession is supposed to stand for. Turning their roles into personal brands cheapens the values of the profession as a whole. At its core, being a “silent professional” is about staying focused on the mission and having the discipline to do the extraordinary without seeking validation. Seeing that replaced by guys chasing attention and paychecks is disappointing af.

Honestly, it makes their entire community look bad, plain and simple. Thanks for doing your job but stfu!
Dick Marcinko set the stage with his books , persona and grandstanding.

I didn't watch the 3 hour video and haven't gone through every page, but my impression of Kennedy is that he served legitimately but is also using that clout to push his ego and additional unsavory beliefs. I respect him, but find it strange that he has to constantly remind everyone how much of a badass he is.

Most people who served and have podcasts do this. It isn’t exclusive to him tbh.
