Anthony Pettis beat Henderson with a torn shoulder

Lol @ Sherdog

"Pettis won with a torn shoulder, he's so awesome!!"

"Anderson had a hurt rib during Weidman fight?? Yeah right he's just making excuses."

Facepalm

You're employing the logical fallacy of a false equivalence.

Pettis won, and in dominant fashion, so he doesn't need to make excuses. Anderson lost, so he does however. They are not remotely equivalent situations. There isn't any reason to believe Pettis is making things up, given there's no real benefit in him reporting an injury. Whereas with Anderson, he would have the motive because it would explain away a loss.

If you have a real noticeable injury where you're not moving (like Cain), stumbling around (like Mayhem + Browne), or not throwing hands period (like Faber vs. Brown); you have an excuse because there's clear evidence the injury vastly effected your performance. But in Anderson's case, he was dancing around, and everybody has some injury, so it doesn't fly.

That's absolutely true. The adjustment to the UFC was not, wow these guys are killers, this is a really hard transition for that reason. Rather, unlike WEC where everybody tried to be a killer, in UFC a lot of guys just try to win by any means necessary, Guida being arguably the most extreme version of that attitude, so it was a difficult transition for Pettis due to that reason. If he had that awareness from the beginning, he wouldn't have thrown everything into trying to finish Guida with every strike and sub from the bottom. He would have gotten up continually and picked his shots more judiciously. People who've referenced that Guida fight as indicative of Pettis' skills have already proven to be dumb, and they're only going to continue to look dumber if they keep doing it.

Couldn't agree more. Fuck, i really miss WEC... =(

yup, ridiculous double standards. Anderson also got bashed for talking about his injuries in the past, after some of his wins.

Well, obviously it's unwarranted to get bashed if you point it out after a clear win. There is no reason to lie, then, unless you're a compulsive liar.

But after a loss, there is a motivation to lie or exaggerate, so it's fair to really have to seen the way in which it hindered your performance, otherwise everybody can use injury as an excuse and nobody would be achieving a legit win. If that's the case, what's the point in watching?

Anderson Silva started his statement by saying: "this is not an excuse for my performance".
Yet a thousand of keyboard guys trash him from their basement, just for telling the truth about his physical condition.

I don't understand people that are interested enough to come into mma forums on a daily basis, but wants fighters to stay quiet, shut up and fight... and wants them to lie when asked about injuries.

I'm on the other side, i wanna hear about their life, their minor-injuries, their camp issues....

Point taken.

Then explain why after Anderson/Chael 1, when Anderson also said he had an injured rib, everyone still cried "excuse excuse" just like they are now? That was a clear cut win, was it not?

Fact is no UFC fighter goes into a fight 100% after an intense training camp. Sherdog just likes to pick and choose which ones are "excuses" based on which fighters they cheer for and the fighters they despise. And 80% of this board are Anderson haters.

Definitely speaks to his toughness, but I can't help but worry about what will happen when all of these injuries start to take their toll in the long term.

LOL He beat Bendo with torn shoulder and no sparring...and Bendo was almost supposed to be LW GOAT at that moment, only one win way from it.

Pettis is a beast

Uh oh ... Is this going to end up like when Silva made excuses for winning when he beat Sonnen with a busted rib?

If so, go easy on Pettis and his fans, please.

If you point out an injury after a clear win there is reason to lie since it makes your win look even more impressive than it would had you not been injured.

An injury doesn't make a loss or win any more or less legit.

What percentage was he fighting at?

That's not exactly how it works here, sir.

I'm not very surprised, Henderson has never been a dominant champion.
