Do you believe Mr. Humble's 'elusiveness' was a strategy, to play it safe and obtain another world title without taking unwarranted risks; or Is this an excuse for a lackluster performance and fight. I'd lean strongly towards the first, with a sprinkle of the latter (in effort to quash the criticism of a 'boring' fight).

Did Anthony Joshua give the fans a true and PPV-worthy representation of the sweet science - to hit and not get hit?

Here are the compubox numbers:

CompuBox is not an exact science no matter what Jim Lampley tells you

No doubt. I didn't say take the numbers with a grain of salt, because I assumed most do anyway (or discount them completely).

If that was his game plan he didn’t execute it very well.

What i saw was playing it safe

Not some technically outstanding display of 'hit don't get hit'

Cat thinks he's Joe Louis or prime Tyson or that he has Ali like movement to woo us

I think it's was a strategy. I think parker also made him look bad. The first four rounds were good. Then it got a bit shitty.

Agreed. AJ played it safe and did the minimum of what he needed to secure the win. Loosely controlled the majority of the bout outside of a few bursts from Parker. Yet looked unspectacular doing so. The somewhat risk averse strategy - presuming it's true - and Parker's style not clashing together played a big role in that.

If the 'sweet science' and 'hit & not be hit' mantra is going to be utilised by Anthony, his team and likely his herd of followers, then it has to be said - Anthony's defense is still underwhelming, a known edit: dent in his armour; against an opponent who merely wanted to survive for large portions of the bout & was hitting air due to his own lack of conviction and wanting to survive.

When AJ was shadow boxing on that riser I was reminded of the Ronda Rousey gif. He looked pretty happy though. Not really so much like a man that was about to go to war, but they weren’t really there for that anyway. Just a nice little show to keep the cash flowing in. Remember Tyson’s flashy entrances? Oh, that’s right, he was actually at the venue to beat the shit out of somebody.

I didn't even know there was a fight last night. Sounds like his next one will be an even bigger nonevent.

I prefer no entrance at all and a good boxing match to some flashy shiii like this and a snoozefest

It was like an old Klitschko performance last night - ultra safe but doing enough offensively to win, it was the same against Takam as well. I think Fury coming off a 350 pound layoff would still have enough to beat him if AJ fights like he did last night against him.

That's what I saw as well. I hope AJ isn't the second coming of Wlad here. What I liked about AJ up until the Takam bout was his willingness to go into dangerous waters to stop his opponent. Now it looks like AJ has embarked on a win as safe as possible mission. I really hope that isn't the case but it sure looks that way.

That fight was awful.

I loled when he said “boxing finesse”

More like...

the sweet science of putting on such a shit fight you have no choice but to actually fight someone dangerous like Wilder so it will be an entertaining scrap so you don't kill the heavy weight division like Clinchko did for a decade.

He is definitely conscious of how much he has to lose so he will just keep playing it more and more safe.

I saw a guy that struggled and Parker isn't known for his hitting power. You hear how he talked after the fight? Calling out Wilder even though he refused to see him face to face....I don't care for it.

Don't you have to throw punches to hit and not be hit.

Fk in hell the man has 20 KO's 1 that went the distance and all of a sudden he's being ousted as a boring fighter.

Some of you have either never boxed before or been good at it at least or just have no idea the pressure AJ was under to make sure he won?

If you need to to execute a faultless performance in a game where one punch can end your future plans and $$$ you'd fight smart as well.

Do you guys appreciate how many millions are on the line here?

AJ has been floored enough times fighting to entertain and finish (unlike Fury), the man isn't Mike Tyson, he is a big target and a lot more static, he can get clocked yet always pushes for a finish ......... he boxes smart and disciplined once and apparently he's accused of delivering snooze fests?

Very unreasonable imo.

Blame Joseph Parker

Thats how Parker fights. If you saw Parker vs Fury/Takam/Ruiz, they were equally boring because Parker disengaged with the jab all day

Stiverne is a boring ass fighter and Wilder just jumped into his face and snatched his fucking soul out.

Any fighter has the choice to risk it all for the KO or just play it safe. Joshua made his choice. Can't blame anyone else for it.
