I'm a fan of some type of order when it comes to weight classes. Something concrete, not just historical or numbers created on a whim.

I received mixed feedback on my last similar idea - which was to make weight classes go up an even 10% in weight from one to the next. http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/new-original-unique-awesome-weight-class-idea.3456213/

In this suggestion, I have weight classes going up by a standard increasing amount. For instance, from 135 to 145, the gap is 10 pounds. From 145 to 156, the gap is 11 pounds. The gaps that follow will be 12, 13, 14 and so on.

125
135
146
158
171
185
200
216
265

Of course the gap between 216 and 265 does not follow this format, but I did not want to add 2 more divisions - 233, 251 (with super heavyweight then becomin270) in order to keep the big heavies. My new weight classes total 9, up from 8 now. I know most people will say no new champions, but most also agree that the gap between 205 and 265 is too big.

The goal is to legitimately spread out the divisions. Each weight class should have a higher gap than the one below it, and a smaller gap than the one above it.

Flame away

I honestly don't see what does this accomplish...

Either 200 or 216 would be a complete wasteland.

If not both.

I think that weightclasses are fine as they are.

Perhaps just remove that 265 cap from HW as see whether some huge meathead can Bob Sapp the competition or not.

Since I don’t care about lighter weights, it’s mostly the same as current with the exception of Franklin Weight and Cruiserweight. Works for me.

Stop fucking with weight classes.

There is nothing wrong with the current system. Keep it the way it is and shut your mouths.

You add weight classes when you actually have the fighters/talent to fill it in, otherwise you get the WMMA 145 problem, where they don't even have a top 15 ranking list on the UFC website. You can scrap 170 and instill 165 and 175 because the 155 and 170 classes are deep enough to accommodate them. Creating 216 to split an already vacant LHW and HW is a no-no.

Just re-read the post. 146, 158, and 171? That may make it easier for the big guys of those divisions to cut weight, but fuck them. If you're too big to comfortably cut, move up.

Do away with 125 and bump upper limit to 285. Done

Major changes of weight classes have to be done only after significant rethinking of weight-cutting issues. Cutting weight by dehydration has to be banned.

No one pound weight allowance. No upper limit for HW.

Weight class’s upper limit has not necessary be 5N pounds, where N is a natural number. But let’s assume it is. Wouldn’t it be better if the number of 10N upper limits is no less the the number of 10N+5 upper limits? Is a sequence of 130, 140, 150, etc worse than a sequence of 135, 145, 155, etc?

For instance...

5N-classes for men:
