Some big upsets in fights in the UK lately. First it was Joyce over Dubois then Arthur vs Yarde. The winners of those fights were big underdogs in the odds.

Now today Ashley Theophane takes on Sam Eggington (can you have a more British last name). Theophane is a +500 underdog but I don’t have the same gut feeling I had with Joyce and Arthur. Can he pull the upset?

Eggington is coming off a loss against an opponent who wasn't as experienced as he was. I can't remember how I scored it but I think he lost by 3 or 4 rounds. He didn't really have another gear to go to, or how to control the fight in general. Was a naive performance.

This fella Theophane is a lot more experienced than Eggington, although I can't say I recognise the names on his record.

I don't think it's an outrageous bet to go with the underdog

just looked up both records, Theophane is 40 years old, I do not know either of these fighters but I think it is a very risky one compared to the other 2.
Joyce was an insanely succesfull Amateur boxer, although he lost a couple of fights in WSB and Yarde didn't fight elite competition in most of his fights and failed to knockout an aged Kovalev who got Knocked out by 5'8 Canelo.
Also Yarde has a huge cardio problem I do not know if this Egginton guy is pillow fisted or if his technique is any good but definitely a more risky bet.
Then again it is gambling, if you wanna win big gotta take some risk.

Tbh I’ve never known anyone with that surname. It’s fairly random. I’ve know about a million smiths, Jones and Campbell’s! They’re about as British as you can get

You don’t know what you’re gonna get with eggington. He’s decent sometimes, average others. That’s a good enough reason for me not to put on any of his fights

Theophane actually fought for Mayweather promotions for a while and his only stoppage loss is too Adrien Broner. I also watched some of his last fight and he looked really bad.

it was against ted Cheeseman, who’s decent and pretty tough. The egg vs the cheese! I thought it was really close, I had it a round or 2 to cheeseman, but I wouldn’t have had an issue with it going the other way
I haven’t seen theophane box for years. Last I heard he was part of mayweathers stable. He’s old for his weight though, id assume that’s why Sam is a heavy favourite

Eggington put in a good performance against Cheeseman, but had look shot to shit before that.

I’ve had a flutter on Theopane KO.

edit: I think I read somewhere that Theophane is a gym war guy, a la Scott Quigg. Can take that either as he’ll get in there and bang, or he’s done himself in a la Quigg.

Is there anywhere to watch the undercard - seems that only the main event is on C5

I watched a few rounds of Theophane's fight with Ouma and he is completely shot. Odds were interesting but after watching that fight I knew he would get smashed, even by a punching bag like Eggington
