If anyone else has a subscription to MGInAction, Marcelo has a good video on ankle picks in the gi and collar control. This post just reminded me to rewatch it, as I find people often don't expect ankle picks in gi.

Most expected amongst people who know what they're doing (since you can combine it with a fake guard pull or use it as a sweep for points/advantage if you are both on your butts [see Alves vs Miyao for instance]); most common attempt though is probably stooping over to grab at someones leg with terrible posture.

I'm more of a straight ankle pick kind of guy, but the cross pick to leg drag or folding pass is a great combo.
