They dont use mirror and might get a idea from the crew they run with but for the most part I think they clueless. Thats why dogs bark at the reflextion in the window.

They could have taught it to paint what it perceives as an abstract design but what we perceive as an elephant. I don't think it just picked up a brush and decided to draw a picture of itself
