Anderson Silva Returns to Face Jared Cannonier at UFC 237

Sometimes, people are stupid. If you want to make money, why the hell in the world do you pair Anderson against an unknown guy?

Why not Conor, GSP, Shogun? Why?

Conor vs Anderson size difference is too much IMO. GSP is boring. Shogun?? HECK YES! 2 guys from Brazil who may have had some beef with each others' camps back in the day, slugging it out in Brazil! Both are past their primes. Makes more sense Than Jared Cannonwheel.

Breaking: Anderson Silva (34-9) will face Jared Cannonier (11-4) at UFC 237 on May 11 in Brazil, per UFC president Dana White. Silva just dropped a decision to Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 234 earlier this month, and said he wanted to be on the Brazil card.

Silva last competed at UFC 234, where on fight day he was upgraded to headliner status, and dropped a competitive decision to upcoming title challenger Israel Adesanya. Although he once maintained a UFC-high win streak of 16 consecutive victories stretching from 2006 to 2012, since losing his middleweight crown he has only won once in his last seven bouts -- a contentious decision win against Derek Brunson at UFC 208. This appearance in Brazil will be his first since final victory on the aforementioned win streak, where he knocked out Stephan Bonnar in the first round in 2012. Silva maintains a 9-1 record in his home country, with that lone loss by decision to Luiz Azeredo in 2000.

Cannonier made his successful debut at 185 pounds last November at UFC 230, where the Alaskan knocked out David Branch in the second round. With a record of 4-4 inside the UFC, Cannonier initially started his UFC run at heavyweight before dropping down to light heavyweight for five bouts, going 2-3.

I'm not sure why they keep making Silva fight these jacked black guys

Very winnable fight for Andy.

Props to Andy for living the fighter's life, even tho he pissed not a few times, in a sport where guys are applauded as heroes when they 'take their ball and go home' when things don't go their way. Jog many fighters would have fought D.C. on a few hours notice. True Bushido.

I like the fight.

I'd be happy to see Anderson go out KO'ing jobbers until he's had enough...

He's done enough. He's fought the best. Let him have some fun.

Ive trained several times with Cannonier. There arent many Alaskans that get into UFC, let alone go this far.

So *I* am beyond hyped

What a waste of one of Anderson's last fights. A win for Anderson does nothing for him, Cannonier is too old and crappy to become a contender himself win or lose, and it's a fight no one cares about so it won't draw.

They should cancel this crap and book Anderson vs Shogun. Dream fight for fans and winnable for both at this point.

This is win / win for the UFC:
Anderson wins: *He's back!!! After surviving and nearly thriving against Adesanya, now we TRULY know THE SPIDER IS BACK!*
Cannonier wins: JARRED CANNONIER HAS JUST DEFEATED ANDERSON SILVA. Wow! His time is now boys, we just saw the start of the Cannonier Era. Let them cannons blow!"

That was the argument for Silva vs Adesanya not Cannonier vs Silva. Cannonier is 34 years old and is has 2 wins in his last 5 fights. Its a lose/lose not a win/win, fight makes no sense.

Anderson in Brazil is the draw

Absolutely atrocious fight. Such a waste of time.

Send Covington up to MW to fight him, let him run his mouth about Brazil to hype the fight like Chael.
