2 of the greatest MMA strikers of all time.

Vitor Belfort was in the middle of his prime coming into the Anderson title fight. The former LHW champ (and HW tourney winner) was on a 5 fight win streak with 4 KOs (3 in the 1st round) including KOing former MW champ Rich Franklin.

Belfort went on to win 5 of his next 6 fights (4 via KO, 1 via RNC) only losing a LHW title fight vs Jon Jones in a fight he almost won via armbar.

Silva was on his GOAT UFC win streak. 13 fight win streak with 11 finishes and 7 title defenses coming into his 8th title defense. Silva defended his MW title for the 8th time in spectacular fashion.

The greatest KO in MMA history.

Everyone was in the gym trying to get that snap in their front kicks the next day lol. Was that the first front kick to the face KO in the ufc?

Anderson was sooooooo fun to watch back then

Vitor was considered a dangerous, good fighter who never quite lived up to the promise he had when he first burst onto the scene, around the time of the Anderson fight. This was before full-on TRTor.

I remember watching this fight live and screaming at like 1AM when that happened...

If I remember correctly - this was really the first front kick KO landed (in a high profile fight like this).

    Top 10 MMA moment IMO

I remember going into that fight thinking Vitor had a legitimate chance to win the motherfucker and then Anderson does that and it was jaw on the floor.

Yea, not sure what to say about that one

Here we all were thinking Vitor was the one to knock “matrix” Silva out at that time. He came to the UFC that second stint on fire dispatching Ace and Rumble super easily.

I thought Vitor was going to come in and attempt to grapple with Anderson tbh. During this time period Belfort was pretty much a HW.

Vitor was in the middle of his 3rd of 4th prime

his lion body wasn’t ready yet but the dinosaur would soon rise after this loss

No he was very lean and coming off some very decent 185 pound wins (Terry Martin, the murder of Landland) and then 195 Franklinweight then must have re-made185 since it was a title fight vs Anderson

He would eventually continue to fight at 185 as TRT form
