This is what I think of this whole situation.

Firstly Daniel is a dick, and it's his fault that the event is kind of in turmoil. Rumors break around a week ago that he has some leg injury because he's seen limping in public. Those rumors die down, and it's treated as nothing. Then we all think there is an outside possibility of Jones not making this event because of a jail sentence or curfew being applied. That is then shot down, and now DC is injured after all. Not saying he is ducking, at all. I'm saying he was playing the blame game with Jones, and if Jones couldn't fight he would have pretended to not be injured the whole time, and apply all blame on Jon.

So - if the UFC cancel Jones in any capacity for UFC 197 now, the event is screwed. It goes from a projected 1 million PPV buys to something like 250,000 with Demetrious headlining. With that knowledge, I almost think they have to make Anthony Johnson happen.

Then that brings me to think of the possibilities and the terrible implications on the whole integrity of that division. Let's say Rumble wins, then Jones is screwed. No more title, no more number one contender shot, and just an overall bad situation for him. Let's say Jones wins, then that "Rumble question" over his head is finished. He then faces DC and let's say he wins again. He's now the champion, and there is literally nobody to fight. He would have beaten DC twice, beaten Rumble and the only "fun fight" would be Alex again, but he cannot buy a win, and is riding a 2 loss streak.

The UFC are in a tough spot, either this event suffers or the entire division is in a spot where it's future bouts will be in jeopardy. Those top 4 guys cannot keep fighting each other if Jones always come out the victor. It's a revolving door of the same fights, again and again.

Thoughts?

Stopped at "Daniel is a dick" but thanks for the objective post ts.

Don't kid yourself, at this rate Jones/DC II wasn't going to sell 1 million buys although it could do 500k+

I don't know about all that. All I know is I want to see this happen at least one time in a UFC fight.

Why should we care what the UFC makes. Are you bussiness partners with the UFC? to many financial advisory on sherdog

Agreed don't care for ppv buys, revenues, popularity of mma or even title implications. Would just be great to see Jones vs Johnson. Fight fight fight.

You worry too much TS. Who did Ronda fight after the "contenders"? Hyped cans, and everything was fine...until one day, the pain train came, and it was great. Nothing wrong with Jones continuing to win, nothing wrong with him losing either. It'll alllll work itself out. Every single fight doesn't have to be a grudge match between the unstoppable force and the immovable object.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT HAMILL!!

All I heard was lots lots of tears running down op face.

Jones isn't going to fight Rumble.

Move on.
I don't care if he fights him at this particular stage.

So you reckon the first one did 800k but this one would do considerably less?

With all of the promotion the UFC's been getting over the last year, the audience has definitely expanded. I reckon this card would have done 900k to 1.1 million.

Nah, I could care less about the PPV numbers - affects me, zero.

What I'm doing is trying to logically interpret and predict their best and next move based on the information we know. The PPV numbers dropping by 700k would easily be a good enough reason to really strong-arm a Jones vs Rumble fight.

There was a wild brawl and videos of them insulting each other not knowing they were being recorded last time.

Haha, the Hamill bit got me.

I getcha' but Ronda hadn't already beaten 5-10 ranked girls when she was on her ascension.

If Jones has to face Rumble, and wins, then beats DC. The division is fucked. Those 2 fights could easily happen by October/November, nobody is coming out of the woodwork between now and then in terms of title shot.

Can they really have Glover get a shot off of a Rashad victory?

Can they really have Bader get a shot off of a Latifi victory?

Shogun or Anderson getting a shot off of a victory over the other?

I just don't see the guys coming through.

Jones has beat them all, and they all are not making a resurgence. Evans and Shogun are finished. Bader or Glover is just silly.

Yes, lets blame DC for Jones criminal actions. I mean, if DC would have pulled out of the fight a few days before Jones went to jail, nobody would be hating on Jones.

That's a fair point, I think the UFC would have made a promotional push over the last week or so all the way through to the fight - of course there has been a lot of complications with that over the last week or so.

Ronda vs Holly did 1,200,000 with pretty much zero promotion of the "fight". Of course Ronda is a bigger star than Jones, but I'd like to think this would have done at least the same 800k or better this time.

If DC knew he couldn't make the fight with that injury, then he should have just pulled out.

Instead he tried to play the clever game of "blame him, not me". Of course if Jones had gone away with a sentence or had a curfew which somehow stopped this fight, he would have taken all the blame - especially on forums like here.

DC will get some grief over this, because the minute Jones is "good to go" he has an injury now - which we all already kind of knew from the rumors. He was playing petty games, and showing his lack of mental fortitude as usual. The guy is a beast and I actually support him in more bouts than most, but Jones is DC's kryptonite, he makes him act like a child.
