An unforgivable misstep by the UFC making Holm/Pennington the Co-Main for this card

When Conor is headlining a card, it represents a massive opportunity for the UFC. Rarely do they ever get as many casual eyes tuning in as they do when McGregor is on the marquee- Every single one of these casuals deciding to check out the fights represents an opportunity to create a new fan of the UFC.

You would think the UFC would use this extraordinary opportunity to showcase two of the promotion's extremely talented and entertaining fighters (of which there are no shortage) in the co-main event spot. Sure, I understand not wanting to make a title fight as the co-main- It's disrespectful to the champ to be second billing to a non-title Conor fight. But there is still an extensive list of phenomenal fighters that the UFC could have put in that spot to showcase the beauty of this sport- Ngannou? Jairzinho? Gaethje? Poirier? Felder? Hooker? Gastelum? Yair? Korean Zombie? Aldo? Cody? JDS? Cannonier? Shabahzyan? Geoff Neal? Fighter Kevin Lee? Derrick fucking Lewis?

How on god's green dick did they settle on Holly Holm and Raquel Pennington? You could literally throw a dart at the UFC rankings board and come up with a more compelling matchup than that. The fact that it was (predictably) a complete snoozefest only accentuates the complete and utter failure by the UFC. It is genuinely hard to fathom the level of incompetence required to botch an opportunity of this magnitude.

Lol u rite

It is what it is, shitty wmma over logic and reason

WMMA loving soyboys will argue otherwise... they want more.

<{chips}>

The whole card was a misstep.

Minus the main event, this entire card would have made a WEAK fight night card.

They wanted to test Conor's drawing power at this point. They basically just made a card that was "Just Conor and nobody else," and see if it still sells.

Holly's one of the most popular people in the sport popularity over logic wins every5ime

Or stroke of genius to make sure that there's no way the main event seems boring by comparison.

UFC was taking the viewer at home into consideration. This typical Holm pitter patter bullshit allows the viewer to leave the TV and make a sandwich or a drink or a quick fap if you will, without missing a beat. Genius

Agreed. Pettis is washed, and Oleinik is about 62 years old. You'd think they'd try to draw attention to some better fighters with all these eyes watching for Conor.

Yeah the fight was going to a decision 100% but ufc was smart putting shitty not relevant fight on this card people going to buy this ppv anyways regardless who's in the co-main or under card save the good fights for another card.

UFC knew they were cleaning house with McGregor so they could afford to fill the card with riff raff

They still tryin to milk Holly “Holmes” for all she’s worth izz nurmal

It's hard to believe a brainstorming room of "professionals" allowed this catastrophe of a co main event where we saw journeyman Holm vs 10-9 Pennington which sapped the whole energy and momentum of the card. Truly unbelievable. UFC is a joke these days.

A co-main should be an appetizer, not an obstacle.

Why spend your big fights on a card that sold already cause Conors on it, the year is long
