Imagine this: You're gushing blood. Nothing seems to make it stop. Then you apply a gel to your wound, and the bleeding stops within seconds. You're healed in minutes.

This is the premise of VetiGel, an algae-based polymer created by Joe Landolina

Maybe. I wonder if it is meant to be used in situations where the wound will risk being forcibly re-opened immediately - perhaps several times.

If they keep reapplying the gel between rounds, will the fighter end up with the wound being "held open" by a thickening wedge of gel?

Anyway, clever invention for sure.

An unapproved medical innovation that probably has very little testing in humans. Sure, lets just toss it into the octagon.

Well, it's already being released for animal use and they're expecting an FDA clearance within a year.

I expect this stuff to show up in combat sports for post-fight use at least. If you can inject the get l into the cut and then remove it after a minute with a fully clotted wound I can't imagine why they wouldn't allow it.

That stuff is really good for potentially fatal situations. Stem the blood flow until the victim gets to the hospital.

Is it applicable in MMA? I don't really think so. They stop blood pretty good right now. What ring doctors worry about is blood getting in the eyes or excessive damage to the skin tissue.

But hey... if they do it, I'm all for it.

Does anyone else remember a fight in the UFC years ago, where one of the cornermen used a powder to stop the bleeding of his fighter? I remember seeing it once, then never again.

i would carry some of that shit on me. you never know what may happen

He invented THAT when he was 17? When I was 17, I created a super hero whose super power was that he had really large arms. Like freakish, scary large. No origin story. Just a guy with massive arms.

His costume was jean shorts and a wife beater.

Honestly kinda interested in this dude now. Does he have back (or other) problems from the weight of the arms, can his legs/spine support the weight of what his arms can carry, etc, etc

Y'all and your modern medicine; this is what we use up north:
