Was I the only one annoyed this whole fight by the ref threatening to stand them up every 5 seconds?

At one point Makwan had literally just finished passing to full mount, and he was threatening to stand them up if they didn't work... what fight was he watching?

Yeah you can't threaten to stand a guy up when he is in mount, way too dominant of a position.

To be fair to the ref, what's the point of getting mount if you don't do shit with it? Control is only worth what it grants you

Both fighters scrambled hard the whole fight. I thought it was a great fight aside from the ref.

It does kind of seem that way.

I know. I don't agree with the ref. But Makwan WAS ultimately inactive on the ground

You mean "biased". I think it's more likely about a lack of education rather than bias

I definitely lost a lot of respect for Marc Goddard tonight. He used to be my favorite referee.

I can't remember which fight it was, but approximately 3-4 months ago there was a fight where he kind of took charge, and got a lot of credit for it. I saw that fight and thought he did great, but it's probably gone to his head since then. He was acting like they were just participants in his fight tonight.

Because it was clear immediately that he intended to literally just lie there.

I agree a fighter needs a chance to work, especially from mount, but if you seriously just want to lie there for 20+ seconds, then a stand-up is understandable. Big John did it in the Dada fight too.

I can't remember what exact fight it was either but I know what you're talking about. That's when I gained the most respect for me as well and I really do think it went to his head. It's a shame.

    Unless it's Kimbo in mount.
