Americans how much firepower (guns) do you need to defend yourself?

For hundreds of years all the guns before the 1900s worked fine and today many are still made (bolt action, revolver action, repeating action/lever action and pump action. bolt action came around in early 1800s.

why you guns need so many handguns and machine guns and semi automatic weapons that hold such large magazines? i think your 2nd ammendment is cool by the way.

With firepower, when possible, it's smart to have more than you think you'll need. Generally speaking, 10 rounds of semi-auto fire will get 'er done. Sometimes it doesn't. So who knows? But semi-auto is how you get shots on target quickly, and that's key to surviving a self-defense encounter. All said, I need at least 20-30 rounds for a rifle and 15+ for a pistol. So at that point there isn't much sense in any magazine restictions since as you go higher the failure rate increases.

I sure hope not. But if it's good enough for some teenager shipped half-way across the world then it's good enough for me. Why do I need to have to worry about reloading? The ideal arm would never run out of ammo. It would also shoot quickly and accurately. Why do I want less effective shit?

The bad guys keep upgraded their tech, so the good guys have to keep up or else they lose. No one wants to lose to the bad guys. So its either win, or become a bad guy.
