Social American History X on Netflix

Reading some of the comments here about American history X reminds me of the time when I read the reviews of that Sam Jackson film, Unthinkable. (Ticking time bomb scenario, sam Jackson has to torture a Muslim terrorist to get info of where the bomb is)

The reviews were all over the place. many thought it was literal torture porn, glorifying torture as a good thing, and many others thought it was leftist propaganda.

Really? That is a thought provoking movie though right? He could get the bomb information if he tortures the terrorist kids in front of him. So save thousands or millions lives for torturing a terrorist child should it happen?

I don't get this torture porn thinking or people like AH-X because they like the racist hate angels. No one would of said that 10 years ago in a discussion.

Amazing movie. Watched it again on Friday while working at home.

What a damn shame that Edward Furlong ended up looking like Brian Peppers.

And a woman beater on top of that. smh

Has anything youve done made your life better?

One of the best conversations of all time in a movie. Right up there with matt damon and "its not your fault"

no dude, I enjoyed the film. I was just using that common term.

and I agree with Sam Jackson's course of action

Yea he got stopped and the terrorist told him about some bombs but Sam's character said there is another bomb and that the terrorist was always one step ahead. But the movie ends and you don't know what happened if I remember right.

I remember the whole argument of torture was involved too in discussions with this movie.

I had to Google that. She actually said that. Wow.

I couldn't believe it either, and it's deeper than that. There is a reason this bar-tending airhead has been catapulted to the front seats of the DNC. She is the figure head for what the DNC hopes to accomplish. Confide with the millennial voters, and start this new line of thinking. feelings over facts. Morals over being correct.

I don't think they are always mutually exclusive. One can acknowledge the facts, while using their moral compass to come up with a solution. She just made it an either/or deal.

You actually believe this?

There are times when being factually correct falls in line with be morally correct, but morals are subjective depending on the individual.

Can't see what you're responding to, but I don't think anyone truly believes or acts as if morals are totally subjective. And being factually correct is always the most important thing in a discussion.

And that's fine, but let's agree her original quote is insane and goes against many principles this nation was founded upon. Hell, her quote goes against Western civilization and it's standards we have carefully set in place.

Congrats on denouncing AOC's quote, proud of you brother.

It was in response to AOC saying that it's better to be morally correct than factually correct. I laughed, and said they aren't always mutually exclusive (keyword: always), and then @Sketch asked if I actually believe that.

I do think the morality system is subjective. On an individual level, and on a state/international level. One neighborhood could differ from another. One nation's populous may differ from another.

In the end we'd all like to assume that being respectful, not murdering, stealing, lying, cheating, etc. is the defacto morale for all. And I'm sure it is for most, as humanity's moral compass has evolved over thousands of years in much of the world. But it's not a completely objective model.

Always assumed the moral of the movie was that buttsex cures racism.

Never saw Unthinkable. Is it good?

I'd argue that being morally correct *is* being factually correct, though I don't know the context of her statement. We have to respect truth if we want to be moral. Morality is about doing good in the world, not masturbatory celebration of the awesomeness of your self.

I do think the morality system is subjective. On an individual level, and on a state/international level. One neighborhood could differ from another. One nation's populous may differ from another.

I think that's a grossly immoral attitude, but more than that, I don't think if pressed, you'd actually act as if that were true. "Oh well, people in that neighborhood killed my mom. To me, that's immoral, but I respect that it's just their custom."

In the end we'd all like to assume that being respectful, not murdering, stealing, lying, cheating, etc. is the defacto morale for all. And I'm sure it is for most, as humanity's moral compass has evolved over thousands of years in much of the world. But it's not a completely objective model.

My thinking is that subjectively, no one behaves as if they truly believe that morality is subjective. Objectively, it is hard to find a basis, but that's probably related to it being a difficult issue rather than to it being an impossible one. The fact that people inevitably make mistakes doesn't mean that truth doesn't exist.

I really liked this movie. I thought it really showed the cost of hatred.
I think the alleged alternate ending sounds great, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Derek went back to that life after losing his bother, especially if you think that he was in that life after the loss of his father
It doesn't sound great actually. It sounds horrible and would show that he learned nothing through everything he went through despite his brother being slain.

I'm not sure why so many are for the alternate ending unless you're a racist.
