I want to join a pure boxing gym but I'm not sure if I should bulk up first. I'm 5ft 10, 147lbs, and 22 years old. I've always been too skinny and I'm wondering if I'll look strange or stand out in a bad way because all the guys at the boxing gym will be pretty big. I can't even bench press much either. I want to box at a club now, so what i'm asking is should I just say fck it and go anyway and not care, or am I underweight and would it be better to put on more pounds first for health reasons?

Just go you big pussy, you're looking for excuses. Training will help you build some muscle anyway, not sitting on your ass at home scared.

Every body type have its own advantages. Chances are if you actually did some ammy boxing you would have a nice reach advantage most every time.

Plenty of bodies like yours in gyms and in the professional ranks. Boxing isn't a pretty muscle contest, so quit worrying about how you look and learn how to fight instead.

tommy hearns was 6ft1 and boxed at 140 in the beginning of his career

Anything you eat will help you gain weight.

You sound like a young guy, try not to obtain any unhealthy eating habits.

Eat the amount of calories that you need first through 3 or more meals a day. Then when you start training increase the portions.

Btw you are not that skinny, I know guys who are probably very similar,

fighters with your build are my favourite to train.
you will be a nightmare for opponents with your height.

Yeah I'll stay away from bad foods. One of my friends is a bodybuilder and he says he always eats oatmeal every morning, so I was thinking maybe I should eat that too cause I'd like to put on some weight. He takes other stuff like creatine as well. I'd like to get to 153/154 pounds.

Do some reading on nutrition, my man. Oatmeal is a good carb source, but trying to put on weight with just carbs is a pretty horrid idea.

Yeah you're right. I need to actually study properly what I'm eating now and do some research. I just thought you eat three meals and that's it.

i think your trolling.....but im your same height and weight well between 148-155.
just go to the gym start training, lift weights full body, focus on plyometric training explosive movements, eat normal. take extra protein shakes and vitamins.

you will build muscle and get strong. i spar guys weighing over 200 pounds all the time. btw...145/155 are weight classes in professional mma/boxing. ever heard of dominic cruz and jose aldo

Seriously? Gaining weight is ALL about calories vs calories out. Eat more than you burn. And weight you shall gain. Also try to hit all of your macros

I'm not trolling. Honest. I've just never done boxing before and I wanted an idea of what to expect when I go there or if there are any requirements. I'm looking for a gym that allows complete beginners to join. I'm not a big guy at all and I thought you needed to be bigger than i am to join the gym. I just needed some advice.
