Don't get me wrong... I love Mark Hunt, and I've always liked Roy Nelson. I thought it was stupid he went to the ultimate fighter rather than just being signed, but whatever...

Am I the only one who feels they are totally outmatched by top heavyweights?

Don't get me wrong I realize they have decent winning streaks, but I don't see them as much more improved than they were in the past..

IMO Mark Hunt is still t he same guy Mousasi beat with ease. and Roy Nelson is the same guy who got KO'd by Arlovski

EDIT: I realize Arlovski was a beast and highly ranked back then, but in such a short time he went from that to fighting guys like Travis Fulton. while Nelson is getting threads talking about him potentially being in the top 5. and others talking about him potential 1 fight away from a title shot.

Although Mark Hunt has a nice streak, I hate the idea of him being in the title picture. I'd rather see him fight Travis Browne or Gonzaga.

And for Nelson I'd love to see him fight Arlovski again.

Hunt has a chance to beat anyone at any weight.

Nelson much less of a chance.

Mark Hunt is an OG and deserves this talk in my opinion. Yeah the likelyhood is that anyone with a ground game takes him down and subs him out, but the guy puts on amazing fights and has the power to break almost anyones face!

It's a pipe dream.

I actually give Hunt a chance because of his striking, against either JDS, Cain or Cormier.

Nelson will end up falling down the ladder, again. He may beat Cain by KO, but I don't see him taking JDS in a rematch nor DC

I'm not surprised at all Hunt is. a K-1 champion, ended prime Wanderleis massive 20 fight winning streak dropping him three times on the feet and did well against prime Fedor.

Nelson has always shown great skills.

Both are much better fighters than Shane Carwin who got a title shot.

They won't win but hw is shallow as it gets and both are coming off nice wins. If they're not in the discussion then who is?

I wouldn't say much better. but i'd give it to them. regardless there are so many guys that would beat them in the division. I just don't see them deserving of the shot.

nelson got to a #1 contender fight before, against jds

why would hunt fight browne? browne got a draw against kongo (wouldve been a loss without a point deduction) and hunt knocked him the fuck out

and gonzaga is near the bottom of the division coming off of a loss

Both are earning stoppage victories and have knockout power in one of the most shallow divisions in the UFC. I think it makes sense to talk about them in the title picture. Both deserve a shot more than Sonnen or Nick Diaz did.

Nelson is surprising, as for Hunt he earned his fight with JDS by finishing opponents and earning the love of fans, and obviously if he wins he's the legit contender.

I have to disagree, man. Carwin's only tool is his massive KO power. His boxing is mediocre, as is his wrestling. I love the guy but he's proof that heavyweights can reach elite status with a very limited skillset.

Nelson has elite BJJ to go along with the crazy KO power
Hunt is a K-1 GP champ and shows it in the cage.

Crazy things happen. When those big guys connect, bodies drop. Hunt being in title contention in 2013 is the craziest thing. If you looked at the PRIDE fighters who came over to the UFC, you never would've guessed Mark Hunt would have been this successful, especially all of these years later. Of the top Pride HWs, Fedor, Cro Cop, and Nog, they either didn't fight in the UFC or weren't that successful (Nog did win the interim title though). Hunt's late career resurgence is the thing of legend.

Not really, I kind of like the idea of Roy vs Cain and think Roy has a chance to win it, solid ground game, solid chin and punches like a truck, if he hits Cain flush he wins, I don't think I would be willing to put money on it but Roy would have a chance I believe.

while it would be absurd to say they haven't improved lately people are forgetting to consider the quality of opposition...these guys are knocking non-top 10 mofo's domes off with ease but they haven't strung together a streak like JDS had prior to losing to cain

that being said, both of those guys dispatched kongo with relative ease which was impressive, and hunt's victory over struve was somewhat notable since he was holding his own in the grappling department and snapped struve's win streak

if hunt defeats JDS then we can start talking about him

but roy has been clowned by Mir, JDS, and Werdum...if you keep your fucking hands up and avoid that overhand right he doesn't have many options left

don't know why guys keep getting caught over the top like that...it's strange

Hunt has a fight coming up that would absolutely put him in title contention, Nelson though has done nothing more than beat another fringe top 10 guy with a suspect chin.

I don't believe in making too many assumptions. Only time will tell. If Hunt beats the #2 guy in the world then obviously he deserves a title shot.
