Am I in Danger? - Headache after Sparring

As far as steroids go.. I will just use a quote from a real sports segment that exposed the propaganda.. "show me the bodies"... not one death has ever been scientifically linked to steroids.

Also, I would never try cocaine. I just find it interesting how we get into this sheep like mentality.. The gubment says it's bad so it must be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The gubment says a lot of shit... Cocaine is bad, but viagra is okay... eventhough it has a list of side effects 2 pages long right?... So even though I have never tried any drug heavier than marijuana, I'm not so blind or naive to not notice that the same people that are saying "Just Say No" are supported by companies that are working night and day to make Americans rely on their drugs for restless leg syndrome, social anxiety, lack of sleep, too much sleep, too much cowbell, not enough cowbell, etc etc etc etc etc.

and all the sheep are fine with that... in fact the sheep are quick to snap to the defense of these companies.. but mention the medicinal benefits of mary J around them..lol.. even better.. mention the fact that it's one of the most useful plants in the world..

So.. that whole rant just to point out that I am not telling any of you to try cigarettes or cocaine.. In fact I am saying DON"T try either because both are BAD for you.. but the more socially acceptable of the two is worse for you than cocaine.

I agree that Marijuana should be legal if cigarrettes are legal. But using cocaine as an example of the government's influnce is just idiotic. The government actually got it RIGHT with cocaine. It's incredibly addictive, and too potent for the heart and brain to handle over decades. But the addictive aspect is the worst, especially when there is a risk of overdosing on the drug, or when people aren't educated enough when they use it for the first time.

COCAINE HAS KILLED POEPLE THE FIRST TIME THEY USED IT... NAME ONE INSTANCE WHERE CIGARRETTES HAVE DONE THE SAME. Everyone here is disagreeing with you about cocaine because it's common sense, not because of anything the government says. Cocaine is worse than marijuana, viagra, and yes... even aspirin. You are not reading your statistical data properly.

I've never had a week long headache, but I almost always have at least a bit of a headache after sparring w/ someone better than me.

I sparred w/ some of the amateurs at Xtreme Couture last summer and june this summer, and they have to get a workout when they train, so even if they're not throwing bombs, they just have this incredible workrate and volume that you have to adjust to real quick

I agree- quite often you may get what seems to be a headache from nothing more than dehydration/exhaustion from a very intense practice.

How come people don't get headaches in other sports when they are tired and thirsty, however in boxing after you get punched in the head and ask on a forum everyone is like "it's just the tension and dehydration " of course it's NOT from getting smashed in they head repetitively, no you're just thirsty.

Tell me in three sentences, without writing a whole paragraph that makes you believe your own point, how is cocaine not more dangerous and damaging then cigarettes ?

Do you take into account how many people are smoking ciggarets and how many are using cocoain, I would say A WHOLE LOT more people are smoking cigarets so obviously there are going to be more deaths.

Would you rather let your own children smoke cigarettes or do cocaine regularly ?

I would usually make a sarcastic remark and write you off altogether after being this abrasive in asking a simple question but for the benefit of those reading who don't know this already:

Um, yeah actually you do get lightheadedness/mild headaches after any intense workouts- not just boxing.

I can't really use a comparative argument with regard to other sports because I don't and haven't really played other sports- at least not on the level that I competed and practiced in boxing. I can tell you, however, that I would often experience headaches, coupled with dehydration/exhaustion, after very intense non-sparring workouts. Replenishing my body with water and giving it some time to process it, as well as reinstating some acceptable level of blood sugar (no I'm not diabetic) with stuff like orange juice and fruits would usually help within a couple hours.

It is possible that the TS has a pre-existing condition, as someone else here mentioned, but a normal human being should be ok with taking a few bumps on the noggin. Like I said the headaches can be caused by exhaustion and dehydration, but I'm certainly not saying I didn't get my fair share of headaches from taking punches. I boxed for 6 years, with a few 1-2 month in between and I can tell you that we sparred hard almost every single practice (monday-saturday), and sparred hard. The first few months were basically one big migrane and stuffy (broken) nose. At the end of the day, you get better at defending yourself and stop getting hit much at all, and the headaches stop. I'm not a doctor but the TS's experience is basically the same one that i and many other boxers that I know have also experienced. Based on that, I really don't think that there's a problem but I guess some people are only looking for one answer when they ask a question and mine may not be it.

I have played many sports vigorously and NEVER gotten an headache. Well I also almost never get headaches generally. From sports I only had 1 headache after getting hit hard to the jaw that lasted for 3 days.

Point is you DO get headaches if you spar hard and take hard shots. I'm not saying it's not worth it but people shouldn't act like boxing and getting hit to the head doesn't cause a lot of damage on your brain depending how often and hard you got hit.

Also he didn't say it was after every training, he clearly said it was after sparring, so let's be real.

Deprive your vital organs of water, and they'll take it from your brain. As your brain loses water it will shrink, putting strain on the connective tissue holding it to the inside of your head. This strain is interpreted as a headache. You admit yourself that you rarely (less than most) get headaches, and yet you use yourself as the test-subject for your analysis. There's a possibility that your dehydrated brain doesn't vary as much in size as your peers, be it because of your brain size relative to cranium size, the way your brain sits in your head, etc. I'm not a doctor, so I couldn't tell you, but something tells me you're not a doctor, either.

I know for a fact that if I severely dehydrate myself, I get headaches. I also know that when I get caught flush on the side of the head by someone who knows what they're doing, I get headaches.

I don't think you're intentionally trying to refute the "dehydration leads to headaches" claim, but it really sounds like you have an axe to grind with that particular stance. It's been scientifically proven that dehydration causes headaches. The end.

Dehydration Headaches - Can Dehydration Cause Headaches

That being said, getting your head knocked around for 4 rounds is a good prescription for a throbbing brain. If it continues for longer than a week, I'd go consult a physician, but if you feel hurt after an ass kicking that's just a good ol' sign of an ass kicking (and damn good incentive to get better!). Good luck and keep working!

No.. you missed my point.. the government got it wrong with cigarettes... because they are incredibly addictive and kill people.. If we are going to allow people to drink and smoke, then it makes sense to allow people to do other things that represent a danger to themselves and those around them as well... it does not make sense to regulate one while allowing drugs that have equally, if not greater, negative consequences to remain legal. Either regulate all the drugs, or don't regulate any.

That is all I'm saying. I am a libertarian when it comes to drugs. I think we can make up our own minds about what drugs do and do not harm our society, change the fact that 80% of the people locked up in our overflowing penile system are in for drug related offenses, and let the people decide what is acceptable and what is not and provide their own consequences.. i.e. if you test positive for cocaine, you can not work for my company.

There are other societies that work fine using less government intervention.. we can do the same.

.167% of all Americans that regularly use cocaine, die annually. This according to The National Household Survey on Drug Abuse estimate of 1.5 million active users.

.79% of current American cigarette users die annually. This derived from the same National Household Survey on Drug Abuse which estimated 57 million Americans were active smokers.

Asking what I would allow my kid to do is a fox news style tactic.. I prefer just to say that I don't think the government should be involved in how I raise my kid. I work for DHS. I see how well the government raises kids on a daily basis. No thanks.

Well still, if regulating cocaine was the right decision, I would advocate that tobacco alse be regulated. It serves no real useful purpose, not even for entertainment as Marijuana and alcohol do. Deregulating hard, dangerous drugs is a case of throwing the baby out with the bathwater... just because one harmful substance fell through the cracks, doesn't mean we should legalize everything.

No need to take it to the War Room. I think we're just going to come up with the same arguments. I respect your last argument, which is actually pretty sensible compared to your previous posts. But I guess I can't agree with you because of my own upbringing in a poor, minority neighborhood. You assume that all people have the knowledge to make their own decisions about drugs, but that's certainly not the case. I've known crackheads, coke heads, heroin and meth addicts... they all started as kids, without really knowing the effects of those drugs (other than getting a better high than weed). And many of them messed their lives up to get higher as they became more and more addicted. If the government would step up and really educate these poor communities about drugs, then perhaps what you're advocating could be feasible. But like you said, the government's chances of doing that effectively are pretty low, even lower when you're talking about black/brown/immigrant communities. But at least they could stop the availability to some degree.

Anyway, I won't argue anymore. You have your views, and I have mine.

PS... not to be an asshole, but it's "penal system", not "penile system"... sorry, but I laughed really hard when I saw that haha.

Stop arguing about cocaine on this forum please, and if you don't want to end up broke and friendless one day then stop using it as well.

Yes, you are in imminent danger. You are either suffering from severe brain damage or you have a tumor. Seek immediate medical help before it's too late.
