I have always hated people exaggerating the importance of hands high defense, especially in MMA with small gloves. Footwork and head movement are a lot more important.

That's what it looks like to me as well. He parried the jab feint, then tried to do the same with the followup right but it looks like he either misread the punch or screwed up the the timing on the attempted parry.
