Economy is going to hell, but nobody is really starving (yet), although Russians could use some food, they are so damn flatass.

Yeah, "starving" is hyperbole, but the fact that one person--and obviously a person with the means to travel abroad--is "doing great" doesn't in any way reflect on the state of the country as a whole. There are well off people in every country.

Which is incredibly odd since Joseph Stalin was an ethnic Georgian from Georgia and the Communist Party was a multi-ethnic congregation of internationalist ideologues with expansionist ambitions.

Did you not read about how the USSR committed huge massacres against the Polish resistance while the Poles were trying to fight back the Nazis.

I'm a Kalmyk immigrant from Russia that lives in the US.

I've very familiar with propaganda from both sides.

The RussiaToday/Channel 1 propaganda in Russia is powerful.

So is the crap on FOX News/CNN.

The standoff between the West and Russia is very sad and unfortunate.

The Russian government today is not ideal- but you don't have a lot of amazing options when you're a developing country.

Authoritarian state-planning capitalism has been working very well in China and had a promising track-record in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.

As long as the Russian government is committed to protecting Russian sovereignty and independence then the Russian people will be satisfied.

The Yeltsin administration was a disaster and he was letting territories go left and right and basically reduced Russia to a semi-colonial client-state to the West.

Gorbachev withdrew Soviet military bases from East Germany and basically forfeited Soviet superpower status (the country was crumbling, yes, but there were so many better solutions than the na

Wouldn't it have been smarter to confiscate it, then slap new "made in Russia" labels on it and distribute it and look like a hero? Kind of like going and buying a premade Thanksgiving dinner, put it on your table and telling a lie when you convince everyone you made it yourself.
